Five minutes after midnight is 0005, correct?

How is that pronounced?

I know it ain't "zero zero zero...." :lol:

Sounds like it would be pronounced that way to me.

anyways, I was just thinking it's such a mouthful and it sounded kinda funny...oh wellz

so when you are learning that stuff in BCT will they make you annunciate it phonetically like "ze-ro ze-ro ze-ro fife"? because that will make it take even longer lol

well the whole purpose behind saying stuff like that is so that when you're on a radio there's no confusion as to what you could have said. When you're doing something like giving coordinates for artillery fire, confusing just one digit can cost lives, so we try to be as concise as possible.

FYI... [b:3459c03074]NEVER[/b:3459c03074] mention "Repeat" over the radio unless told otherwise.

Repeat tells Artillery to fire on last coordinates given. If you ever hear people say "I Repeat..." on a Military show... it's a faux pas. The correct term is "I say again..."

And it's never "over & out". What you're telling someone is that you're turning it over to him & you'll listen (over) but your turning your radio off (out). The two together are impossible.

When refering to midnight it can be either 2400 or 0000. If you have the guard duty from 8:00 PM to midnight it would be 2000-2400. If you're on from midnight to 4:00AM then it's 0000-0400.
