If you claim either or both as your Dependants, then yes. Simply submit your marriage certificate/copy of it....as you enlist/process in.
Since they will not be able to travel/be there with you during basic...you/they will recieve BAH at the rate of where THEY reside...not where you do training.
Generally if you AIT is <6 mo....the same rules apply as basic. If your AIT >6mo, then you are authorized to have your family move/reside with you....and then you would get the BAH w/ dependants rate of where you are training.
Talk with a recuiter, they will square you away, and could and will of told you the ezact same!!!

My question to this is what if that dependant is married to an active duty soldier? They keep telling my wife she is not entitled to BAH due to my duty status, and will not receive BAS due to the fact that meals are provided. IG even told me she was authorizzed BAH but each one of her AIT locations tells her its not authorized.
SGT.L, I believe you are misinformed. From what you posted above, your wife is not your dependent. You said she was in AIT right? Military members are not dependent upon each other. Why should she get BAH or BAS? She is living and eating for free. You cannot receive money if you are recieving housing and meals in kind.

I agree with SSG Ortiz. There are some new regulations and changes out as of January 1st, so here's the website for the new changes: http://dodtravelregs.hqda.pentagon.mil/propub/template.htm?view=main This is in the JFTR, but that's the new location of the BAH regs. According to the information posted, if you are active duty, you are authorized BAH based on your permanant duty location w/dep because of the child. Your spouse should be recieving single rate BAH-II, or generally less than $10 a month. BAS is not authorized.
Thanks for the help, but that doesnt make sense due to when youe goes to any Army school they dont stop her BAH which would be BAH(dif), what they do stop is her BAS. There isnt anything in Army regs that supports this that me or the IG have found. And if this is the case why do all soldiers going through BCT or AIT that are married get BAH for their families? Im not worried about money i have it, but getting information through TRADOC is piss poor and the whole system needs revamping, starting with the recruiting phase.

Yes there is. It is found in the DODFMR VOL 7A chapter 26. I will quote you the exact reference if you can tell me 1) Do you have any Children between you and your wife? 2) Do you live in Gov't QTRS or on the economy?
Other Soldiers who get BAH for their families while in BCT or AIT obviously have "dependents". Can you see the difference?

If there are no children, then no you wont get BAH. And if you are both active duty at different locations E5 and below, again no BAH. Here at Ft Hood, E5 and below married to E5 and below go into the barracks unless authorized by the CMDR on a 4187 per Ft Hood BAH Reg. If you are Reserve or NG, and she is active, after your Active period of training she will get BAH at the W/Dep rate.
There are a lot of factors to consider. Hope that helps.
