ok well last week my recruiter calls me in to sign some MOS change form so it can go up the chain of command for approval. I still haven't anything a bout it.

I did get a letter for the Recruiting Batallion Commander is Houston, notifying me my ship date is coming up soon. It states my shipping date is [b:08b16ce034]July 12th 2004[/b:08b16ce034] Now the contract I signed before lists the date of August 12, 2004 being my ship date. Now I don't understand what is going on here. I even told my recruiter I wanted to push back my shipping date to sometime in September.

I really don't know this is such a hard time to enlist in the Army. I am so frustrated by this, that I might not even go Army anymore. Obviously someone messed up on their paperwork and it seems like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. I spke to my recruiter about this letter I received and he gave me some BS excuse again about the secretary posted the wrong date. I'm like thinking.. the secretary had to be looking at something to put that date on there.

Anyways if i stick to the military, I am looking at the Air Force now... I know people get screwed in the Army later on in their careers, but I haven't even started my army career yet and I am getting screwed left and right.

:?

Thanks needs to blow off some steam..

[quote:6624e20f81="NASCAR#17"]If you want to be a 74B (25B) then you tell them that. When they start "selling" other crap to you....walk![/quote:6624e20f81]

This is the correct response. It reminds me of what happened when I went to MEPS to pick my MOS. My recruiter told me he should have some 98X slots available. Lo and behold I get there and the Army liason informs me there's no 98X. Hell, there's even no MI! Lots and lots of 11B...19K... but uh... I'll pass. They were then trying to get me to take some other job. I forgot what it was. I think it was a mechanic job or something. I told them straight up, "Look. I'm not in a hurry to ship out anyway. I'll just come back when you have something I want."

I told my recruiter the story, and this is why I think my recruiter is a great guy, and he said, "Good. You shouldn't have signed crap anyway. They were givin' you a raw deal. I would have walked, too." And then he said he would go with me the next week to get what I want. He did, and I got what I want, with a bonus, too. :P

***UPDATE***

So it's only a few days before I move to Salt Lake City and I finally hear something from my recruiter. He told me about some snafu with the paperwork, and that it'll take a little longer. I reminded him that I will be moving in a few days and that I will busy. He didn't care, he told me to be "on-call" so when he calls me and gets the go ahead to send me back to MEPS to sign a new contract to leave ASAP when he calls my cell.

I told him that I was extremely busy this week making sure all arrangements for the move are going ok. I think he was getting frustrated and he told me that he was working hard for me and that I might be wasting his time and do him a favor. Trust me I was being calm when he said this. I was busy at the moment and didn't want to argue and I was like yeah whatever. I think if he calls me again this week, that's when I'll tell him to cancel my contract and i will tell him he wasted my time for lying to me about my MOS. He also asked me If I was coming back to Houston. I told him no. When in fact I will be because the buyer on our house backed out on the deal. So I'll be staying in an empty house until it sells. But I wasn't going to tell the recruiter this. He probably would badger me more about signing. Honestly, I don't want him as my recruiter anymore. Bad vibes.

I have one more question, is there a procedure to go through for cancelling contracts? Or do I not show up to MEPS on the reporting date?

Thanks for your help guys. I don't know what I would of done without everyone's advice. I am still trying to decide if the Army is for me when I get to Utah. This entire experience has really tarnished my image of the Army recruitment process for me right now.

My understanding is that you aren't really "in" until you do that swearing in on your day to go to basic. The swearing in you did was for delayed entry = nothing. If they are trying to change your contract or you want to redo the contract then you are really the one in control. But they don't want you to know that.

You do what YOU want to do and you sign up for only what YOU want. If not then WALK away. Don't be talked into anything.

... hmmm.. anytime you go to MEPS and they dont want to give you what you want.. just say ok and walk away and 9 times out of 10 they say ... wait a minute... i think i have something here.... i assure you.. its all a number thing. your recruiter is trying to get his quota or the meps is one or the other.. and think about airforce before army.. its really not that great in the army.. in fact it is not good at all, do you like sleeping in the sand?? get shot at?? or mortered and underpaid.. well i will leave you with that.. good luck.. he he he.....

and dont get scared if they pull the 10000 fine BS.. Just look them in the eye and say Eat me.. then execute an about face... and get up out

go see Fahrenheit 9/11, you will not want anything to do with the military after you see it

haha, this thread is a few years old, but it came up on my search for my MOS (25F). and you know what, I got a kick out of reading the posts. Probably shoulda read it before I signed up.

When I signed up they had pretty much nothing signal, and wanted me to sign up for a "Chemical Equipment Repair Tech" or something of the sorts. I signed the paperwork and my group got called in for the Oath for DEP, and was like "WTF is a chemical etc.." and I pretty much walked back into the lobby and said, no way! After about an hour and a half of talking to the E8 in charge, my recruiter and 2 other recruiters from the same station (they all were pretty pissed at me). They found another job for me, with no bonus and a crappy shipdate. I said "I'll get back with you on Monday", it was a friday then. about another 30 min of them trying to convince me to swear-in then and there they finally took me home, there's a reason why the recruiter take you haha. I got home and searched it online, and under the description, summed up, said I would be 'repairing' water purification systems. My guess after being in for my time, I'd probably be a plumber of some sort.

I came back on monday and they didn't have the other job I would've taken (it mightve been a 25B), and ended up with 25F, with a bonus. Signed up, and now I'm in Korea. I kinda dig my job, so i don't regret it that much. Kinda sucks that they'll be getting rid of us.
