OK, bear with me because this may be a long post. First, Let me tell you my story.

Last year I was accepted to the United States Military Academy Class of 2011. I reported for duty on June 30th and completed basic training. During basic training I developed something called compartment syndrome. (If you have no idea what this is check this out http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/chronic-exertional-com...nt-syndrome/DS00789) So I ended up having surgery two days after basic training at the base hospital. (This was a huge shock to me, I had never even had stitches before [I was 17 at the time] and now I was having surgery). A week after my surgery we started attending our academic classes. To make a long story short, I hated it. I loved basic training (well as much as you could like basic training)but absolutly hated the classes. And so, in October I returned home.

When I left my intentions were to get into the national guard, do the college first program and then do ROTC through the SMP.

Since I left I have had to have the same surgery (for compartment syndrome) re-done. The first time they only released the front compartments, the second they did all of them. No I'm not trying to bash army doctors, but aparently the one that did my last surgery did a bad job (this is according to my civvie surgon), he said he had to pull out a bunch of scar tissue, etc.

Ok so to review I had two surgeries for the same thing in a year.

OK so here is the problem. I went to the national guard office in November of 2007, after a huge pile of paperwork and a trip to MEPS they DQ'd me and gave me a 6 month waiting period. OK I can deal with that. So I come back in about 6 months later (just here recently) and resubmit everything. Well I just got a phone call from my recruiter saying that I had been PDQ'd and was NOT recommended for a waiver.

What I don't understand is why I have been PDQ'd for something that West Point would have let me stay in for. In fact I know of several other people that are still there that have had the surgery done, no problems. This doesn't seem to make any sense. Also I don't understand why I am not recommended for a waiver. Is it because I left west point. Is someone still pissed off about that?

Is there any way around this PDQ? I have no problems with my legs and am fit to serve. Can I call a congressmen? Someone high ranking up at West Point?

Joining the military is something that I am very serious about doing and will do whatever is necessary to fullfill this lifelong dream.

If anyone could give me any insight into this it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think they're pissed off about leaving West Point. It's obviously a serious medical condition, or was a serious condition corrected with surgery. The only thing I can think of is that you're a high risk, that this condition can make you unfit for combat. I'm not a doctor or a recruiter, but it could be either. I hope this all works out for you.

I know from my husband's time stationed at the MEPS in MS, he learned that while you can stay in with certain conditions you can't enlist with them. Kind of like going to get insurance after being diagnosed with cancer versus getting insurance and then being diagnosed with cancer.

That's the way he put it to me anyway....

Does anyone think trying a different branch would yield different results?

Possible, different branches have different requirements and dq's so you could always try.
