So I am thinking about joining the Guard. I want my MOS to be 96D. I have about 100 credits in college under my belt which is enough to go to OCS. Would it be easier to go through basic, AIT, and then do the drill thing for awhile before trying to get through OCS? Or should I just do it all at once? I have never served in the Military so I am not sure of the best plan of attack is. Can someone offer some advice? Would I be able to go to OCS after AIT etc?

well I am planning to go through basic and AIT and getting to my first duty station. I ship to Benning for basic August 12, 2004. I plan on applying for OCS after I settle to life in the Army. I have an associates degree and have 66 hours at a 4 yr college. SO I have the pre-req for the 90 hours. The only problem I have is I am 30 yrs old. All my friends who are officers say I shouldn't have any problems in getting into OCS. I can get an age waiver.

I hope this helps..

You have to be under 30 to get into OCS?

Ok, I also found out today that if I go into OCS, I don't get to pick my MOS. Is this true?

Can you go to OCS after you have been in the Army for a while?

Can you sign up for the Guard for three years and then sign up for the Army after your three years are up?

I know, lots of questions.

Yes, you can put a packet in for OCS and you should get it as long as you have all the requirements. I would do it all at once. I would not try to feel the Army out with an enlistment and then maybe apply to be an Officer. Most people will tell you that an Officer's life is better, yes, but with more responsiblity.

However, if you go into OCS you dont get to pick what MOS you want but rather put in for it and maybe are selected. It depends on the needs of the Army and how difficult or in need they are. And as an enlisted you can get it in your contract and that is a bonus.

I have a college and law degree and am going to enlist to receive an 11x Option 40 contract and for the student loan repayment program. I will eventually apply for OCS or a direct commission to JAG. I would recommend picking the best option for you personally. Good Luck!
