1:ask for a list and description of jobs that you're qualified for. 2: The length of training for your MOS 3: a more detailed description of the jobs you're interested in. 4: Available bonuses 5: Extra training you can get in your contract (eg Airborne, Ranger, Air Assault, etc...)
And don't beleive [b:51424d8824]ANY[/b:51424d8824] promises that the recruiter gives you. If you're told you can have something you're interested in, do not sign [b:51424d8824]ANYTHING[/b:51424d8824] until you see it in writing. I can't stress this point enough. You may have to compromise with the things you want, but don't think you're getting something based simply off the word of your recruiter. If they tell you "You can take care of that later on" don't believe them. While it may be true... it's alot more difficult to go to Airborne school or any other school if it's not in your contract and if your unit doesn't require it.
also be sure to ask him/her how you can get promoted before you leave for BCt...PV2...PFC or even SPC. All the money helps...if your entitled to it, get it.

Also, don't let those recuriters try to intimidate you either. If you don't like what you're getting, don't sign. Those folks need you, not the other way around. This is your career that you are about to get yourself into, don't let someone pressure you into something you don't want to do. In the end, the only person that is going to take an active part in your life is you. I love the Army, but if I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have gone into the MOS Im in.
Good luck!

What Laurie said! Don't let him pressure you into making a decision right away. Take as darn long as you feel you need to to get all your questions answered and do your research, talk w/ family, make your own decision as to whether it's right for you, etc.

You might try to do some research on your own. Don't rely on the recruiter. The more research you conduct, the better off you will be.

After you find out what your eligible for (at the Recruiter's Station) start looking for what interests you. Don't sign up for a MOS for the promotability of it (that changes) and don't sign up for the bonus, you may not be happy what you get (I was offered a $20k bonus for a four year enlistment as a laundry and bath specialist, no thanks)
I forgot one last thing. Buy an ASVAB book and prepare. If your ST score is 100 or higher, choose the MOS 74B (Information Systems Operator/Analyst); it's the best job in the Army.

LT, technically, I am assigned to CAC, but I work for BCTP.

[quote:f8d4234514="TenaciousP"]74B is the best job in the army... as long as you get to work your job. Im stranded in an MI training room. Great Fun.[/quote:f8d4234514]
Well, that is true. I would have been in the same situation at my shop. However, since one of my degrees is in IT, my shop leverages that heavily. Yes, I am an E-4, in an E-4 slot, but a lot of the work I do is above my grade. I am the only military technician in the G6 (I work with GS 11's, 12's and contractors), and I enjoy my situation. However, the soldiering aspect is hardly present. My first line supervisor is a GS-12 and after him is an 0-4. I feel like a civilian in a green suit.
