I have read on another board that you attendance of class is mandatory (duh!) That being said, does the school ever "close down" for breaks, a la a civilian school? And how about weekends? From what I read somewhere, when you get there, it's like basic - restrictions, inspections, etc. but then they give you more freedom as you go on. Is that accurate?
I'm guessing if you have Christmas in the middle of school, you will have to take exodus.
IET training goes in phases. Basic is phases one thru three. When we get to DLI it's going to be phase four or something to that effect and there will be restrictions and whatnot. Once we reach past phase five, then we will get freedoms similar to permanent party soldiers. There is a good website about all this that the units at DLI run, except I can't freakin' remember the url. Will post it when I find it...

It's changed a bit since the artiicle was written, but it's still essentially the same. On federal holidays you get 4-day weekends, so you have from Friday til Monday off.

Yeah, that's the article I read before. I see. Cool.
Oh, and I almost forgot, you usually get an academic break about halfway through a course. We had ours in July to coincide with the 4th of July weekend, so it was an especially long break. It was about 10 days long, it was very much needed.
The classes do not happen on weekends. That time is meant to give your brain a little time to relax and you a little time to relax. When you are in B CO (the reception CO) you are in Phase IV, but they used too and probably still do many events to get you out of the barracks and having fun. The MI BN at DLI does a lot of volunteer activities and a lot of things with the community. If you do end up going to DLI it is my advice to do some of these things to get out of the barracks, unwind and see the beautiful country.

ALL holidays are 4 day weekends....we're in a dry spell right now and haven't had a 4 day weekend for about 2 months now.
Never forget that inspections will start with day 1 in your military career and end with day "last". You will never STOP getting inspected.
If you do come here, understand that this place is probably the most relaxed atmosphere you could possibly be in during IET. Take advantage of it in that you have a great opportunity to learn about the Army and pick some of your leader's brains for some usefull knowledge.
Most of all, relax, learning a language will drive you insane and make you peruse tha Army Study Guide forums instead of doing your home.....crap...I gotta get busy....
I have been here on DLI for over 18 months now... Having been through B Co and now in my gaining Co. for over a year, I would have to say, life is good. Normal Day starts with formation around 7:00 ish, class around 8:00 class till 3:30 with lunch in between. Then PT and the rest of the day for homework, and life. Occasional training events and whatnot seem like an inconvience but they are alright, helps you remember your in the army....
