So I went to my recruiting office to meet my recruiter today. While waiting for him to get back I was talking to this guy who was about to take an APFT test. I asked if he was doing it for a WOFT or OCS packet and he said "nah, im just going in as enlisted"

That through me off guard. So I asked my recruiter what was up with that. Apparently the Army is starting a pilot program where you have to pass a PT test before you get shipped. No more 13 pushups, 17 situps, and 8:30 mile. Apparently they are trying to get rid of "fat camp".

any other recruiters heard about this?

As far as I know, which usually isn't that far Wink, passing the PT test with 60+ in each of the catergories plus doing this checklist thingy of basic knowledge (map reading, first aid, D&C, etc.) is worth a promotion for enlisted personnel before you leave for basic. So that might be what the guy was going for.

Hey Tex...

I have heard the same thing. As I understand what I heard, You will have to pass a PT Test to even join. Again I have only heard this and have not confirmed it. I have a buddy at recruiter school now, so I will try and contact him and find outSmiler That is unless a recruiter replies first Smiler

Yes, there will be a requirement for a DEP to complete a Physical Fitness Assessment prior to departing for BCT. It is not a requuirement until the new FY, but my station is implementing it now for all of our Soldiers.

So does that mean we actually have to get 60 points on everything in order to ship, or you just have to have the test done, doesn't matter what you score?

My recruiter has been telling the DEPers in our company that you need to be able to do the 17 pushups 13 situps and 8:30 mile before basic. He hasn't said its mandatory, but most of the DEPs do an APFT before they ship in our company.

Yeah my recruiter says I we can do one if we want but you don't have to. He also told me I didn't have to have the 60 points on everything, I guess cuz I can't promoted any higher than E4 anyways.

If I am not mistaken, and someone correct me here if I am, you only need to score 50% in each event during basic.

You know, if they do implement this, the Army will be loseing alot of potentialy wonderful soldiers!

Like Miranda said, I didnt need to meet 60 until AIT graduation. I did it on our 1st PT test in basic though.

ALL,
The recruiter journal says that we as recruiters have to give the INITIAL ASSESSMENT. 1 minute of pushups and situps , with a 1 mile run, the assessment you have to take prior to leaving reception. They are trying to do away with the FTU, but the emphasis is on the individual who wants to join the Army.

The others are right withe the BCT Task list and standard 3-event APFT. That will result in a promotion. And ALL SF recruits must pass it with a 60 percent in each event prior to shipping.

The initial assessment has unofficially began, officially will be soon.
