Aight, so for those of us who already came out of AIT and had to wear the PC I have heard news. 2 of my buddies are @ Sam right now getting a skill identifyer and they said that the AIT there are now going to start wearing berrets starting next months. What do you all think?

honestly, I think it saves a step. Actually, I think they should be issued them in Basic. Maybe not wear them until they graduate AIT, but since the beret is considered part of a Soldier's Initial Issue, they should get it with the rest of their Initial Issue.

Soldier wears PC in Basic, since Basic is where they "roll around in the mud and learn to be a Soldier". Soldier wears beret in AIT, where the DS can teach them the proper way to shape and wear the beret. Soldier comes to first duty station looking like a Soldier should look like, instead of being taught how to wear a beret by someone who doesn't know themselves. (You've seen them, if the NCO's uniform is chewed, their Soldier's will be also.)

I remember reading the guidance when it first came out in regards to the beret. It said that you had to be an MOS qualified Soldier... therefore you had to be out of AIT. That didn't stop me from buying a beret and asking how to properly shape it. My class leader at AIT made a lesson out of it so that we all would show up to our units with good looking berets. I dunno about letting people in AIT wear the beret because they are not doing an active mission, but then again I wanted to wear one when I couldn't too.

I think it's a great idea....(even though i don't care for the beret). Having them wear them in AIT might help. If all the junior soldier's have "got it together" then more seniors will follow...weird? :?

Another poster on this site at AIT told me he already has the beret and will be wearing it starting next week.

I read in an AKO Discussion post that they will be issuing them at BCT graduation, so it appears that issuing them at AIT is a "retroactive" (love that word) measure for those who already did BCT but have not yet completed AIT.

So from my understanding, from now on, once you graduate BCT, you will get your beret. Then again, I could be totally wrong about this part.

So if soldiers get their berets after BCT, the AIT Drills will have a field day. Oh man, it'll be great. At least if the Drills will square these soldiers away we might in a few years not be able to request a large pepperoni from our NCOICs, or Battalion COs....heheheh...

Wolve is refering to the fact that a lot of berets look like pizza chef hats when worn wrong.
