Couldn't find a direct email for the moderator, so thought I'd post this here... Don't want to spam board but do want to give members of the forum an opportunity to learn about this project, so maybe you can post it on my behalf in the appropriate place?
We’re developing an MTV online project that would ask a young person to document a pivotal moment in their lives or a decision they are making, and we are interested in having someone participate who is considering enlisting.
They’d basically talk to the camera about why they’re considering it, what their hesitations/fears are, what their family, friends, and recruiters are saying to them. We have no position or agenda—it’s one of a number of issues that are important and relevant to many young people. We want to bring a fresh perspective and format to these kinds of issues, encouraging young people to talk to each other instead of covering it with one of our news or documentary crews.
Anyway, here is the official "call for stories." If you could post it I'd very much appreciate it. Thank you...

-------------------------- I just changed the title after moving this post from the "help" forum to this section. To the original poster, thanks for politely asking to have this posted rather than spamming the boards. To those that are considering taking this project on, good luck.- Jeep

Sounds like a 'cute' idea, but the last thing this Army needs is another pop-culture media fan-fare that destroys the reputation of the good men and women in the service. I have yet to see a media production that doesn't make a mockery of Soldiers engaged in the 'War on Terror.' Having no position or agenda makes the show open to many positions and agendas of thoes who would have their own point made. Before going through with such an ill-concieved idea, I recommend speaking to the Army's public affairs office. Please stop to think what a fiasco this could become and how it could negatively affect our Army and nation.
Go Kinetic!

Most of the MTV True Life shows have presented a well thought out 'snapshot' of life, that is not biased. A few months ago MTV did a True Life: I'm Re-entering Civilian Life. MTV followed a young couple with a baby, a single soldier, and a guy who was medically discharged. Before you knock it: http://www.mtv.com/thinkmtv/features/true_life/ Could be a generation-gap thing, tho.

It not like we all don't know what this will turn out to be. A teen documentary full of dissapointment, weight problems, and crushed dreams. Have you ever watched "Juvies"? Someone is going to overcome all kinds of adversity and finally get to enlist, and at the end of the episode, there will be that writing across the screen that says, "So-and-So made it through Basic Training, and in the early stages of AIT was busted for doing crack and was chaptered out" or "So-and-So got through four weeks of training, and then quit." Sure there will be those that make for a legitimate story, but MTV is just the wrong idea. It's just wrong. Or maybe I'M wrong. Whatever.
