Hi,
I'm from good old England, but when I reach 18 I want to get a green card, and join the us army for 2 years to get an american citizenship. I need one in order to become a cop over there. (Please no replys saying "Stay in the army." This will save me 3 yrs of waiting for one so it is the best way to get it. Plus working with americans for 2 years will let me get used to how you guys work. Even though everyones different, :?
But anyway like the title says whats the minimum amount I can stay in. Is it 2, 3, 4???

Thnx in advance.

minimum is two years for certain jobs, but with today's needs of the army, you'll probably be stop-lossed. Chances are you'll be in for more like 4 to 6. No matter what kind of contract you sign, you have an 8 year obligation. If you serve 2 years active duty, you'll still have 6 years of Individual Ready Reserves time. All that means is they can call you back within that 8 year time frame. Make sure you're joining the ARMY for the right reasons. If all you want is a green card, I'm sure there are other ways that would be a lot easier and more desireable for you. I'm not trying to convince you to find another way...but make an informed decision. Read a lot of the posts on this site....there is a wealth of information here...it will give you an idea of what it's like.

What do they give you when you join? Like I know I get an american citizenship after 2 years of military service but do I need a green card to join it, or can I just join and they give me a green card?
And I've been reading up a lot about the army. I would like it for the experience and it sounds interesting and I will probably go through with it.

your best option is to take a look at http://www.goarmy.com or talk to a recruiter. You can find a list of recruiters on the website.

The link doesn't work, nor the site :S Is it working for you?

But do you know if I will get a green card by joining the us army, or is it required to get one to join??

The Green I.D. card was replaced by the CAC card but neither is the "green card" you speak of... :?

You can't get to http://www.goarmy.com ?

The link works fine for me....maybe it's where you are trying to access it from...are you trying to access the site from England? Maybe they are blocking IP's from other countries. Try going to the US Embassy and see what they have to say.
