The S stands for staff used at Brigade level and below.
The G stands for general used at Division and higher.

S1/G1-Personnel
S2/G2-Intelligence
S3/G3-Operations and Training
S4/G4-Logistics
S5/G5-Civil-Military Operations
S6/G6-Communications and Electronics

The J can also be used. The J stands for Joint as in Joint Forces.

I hate too many acronyms. In my meetings you get one or two, after that you are banned from any more acronyms. When vendors come harping their wares to us I let them know up front I don't want any acronyms....when they start talking 90 miles an hour and every other word is a acronym I show them the door. Big Grin
