If I'm not mistaken, the Army has a zero tolerance on drug usage once they've accepted you into the fold but what about alcoholism?

Do they order you into a rehab unit and give you the chance to straighten yourself out or is it immediate seperation? Neither has a place in the Service if you ask me, but I've known a few sailors in my years as a Navy brat who put away a few more rounds then they should've on a regular basis and were still in uniform. I was curious if this was a problem in the Army as well?

There are many programs that deal with alcoholism and drug abuse. The program ASAP (Army substance Abuse Program) is devoted to treating those who can be treated and getting rid of those that can't be helped. Even though they 'can't' be helped (from military's point of view) they will still recieve counseling to overcome whatever their problem may be after seperation from the Army.

I don't think anyone that is Active Duty is going to sit here and tell you that there isn't somewhat of an alcohol problem in the Army. As with anything there are always some who don't know when to put the bottle down.

According to my opinion It is not good for army to take alcohol.Because they have appointed to protect their country borders and some other important things.so they have to take care of their country.

They're supposed to, but not always the case. I know one person who tested hot, and went on to have a decent career. Another tested hot 8 times in a row before getting kicked out.

I don't know that it's such an alcohol problem with the Army as a whole. Sure, Army (military in general) tend to have more alcoholics than the general population (higher ratio, not overall #'s), but as NCO_OF_THE_YEAR said, it's those few who have very, very serious problems.

jamespeter- Would you care to tell me how having three beers on a saturday night is going to affect my performance on Monday at work? In combat zones, there is not *supposed* to be any drinking, so I fail to see how you think "us"..the entire military, are not entitled to have a drink once in a while.

There's always a few bad apples no matter where you go.
