I am new to this site, and am in the process of trying to join the VA National Guard. I have a question, and am looking for some help. I have had a history of Panic Attacks, but have done very well overcoming them and am completely free of them at this time. About eight years ago, when I first started having them they were very, VERY severe. At one time during my worst period, I was home bound and couldn't leave the house. However, using all natural methods such as exposure therapy and mental imagery, I have overcome any issues I had. I never took medication, even though it was suggested by my therapist. I've known quite a few people who've had PAs, and medication only prolongs them. As a matter of fact, simply by using the techniques I learned to deal with PAs, I have learned to deal with stressful situations very well. I am 200% positive that they are a non-issue at this point, since I haven't had any PAs in several years. However, what I am wondering about is will this issue DQ me from being able to serve? I am somewhat fit, but I need to drop some weight to qualify. I am good to go on the SUs and PUs, but I need a little bit of improvement on my run. I scored pretty high on my ASVAB recently, and am a college student. All help will be greatly appreciated.

#1- Go to the therapist who treated you and get reevaluation done stating what his opinion on your progress and if he thinks your clear. Also you will need the records from the past visits to this therapist showing why you went to see him, the treatments that were done and how the followups went.
#2- You will take all your med records to your local recruiter.
#3- Your recruiter will send the documents to the MEPS medical doctors for reveiw.
#4- At this point two things can happen-
(a) You will be disqualified permanently and not allowed to join.
(b) MEPS will send you out for a pysch. consult with a therapist they use. He will do an evaluation on you. Then those records along with your past records will then be reveiwed by the MEPS doctors and they will either DQ you after that process or approve you to join.
So you need to get all your treatments records and a reeval from the therapist first and foremost.
