Hi, I have a question for a friend that is not on these forums. Like me, she is interested in enlisting in the Reserve, possibly in the MOS of 21 U - Topographic Analyst. I have heard that in some cases, civilian education and experience can enable some folks to opt out of attending AIT. In her case, she already has a graduate degree in GIS and works in the field. Does anyone know if she'd be able to skip AIT in such a scenario...is this even an option? If so, are there any Army web pages which might offer more info on such a case, or should she just talk to a recruiter? Thanks...

Their is a program called ACASP ( Army civilian aquired skills program) which with some MOS's individuals can come in with more rank and not do a full AIT. It really dpends on the MOS and changes all the time. The best bet would be to have your friend go and talk to a recruiter. Not to mention if you give them as a referral if your not already an E-3 it could get you promoted.

Pretty interesting and I never even knew they had this.
Here is a link for the Army's Human Resources Command Site with information about this program:

Your best bet is to talk to your local recruiter and they can check it out for you.
