To all of our future battles:
Drill Sergeant duty is a very demanding but very rewarding duty. Sure you will spend more time with your troops than you will with your family, but you have the opportunity to mold the future of our Army. Here's a little advise:
1) Wear the hat, don't let the hat wear you. Just because you put on the silly little hat and the little pumpkin badge doesn't mean that you are a better NCO. If you were a sorry NCO, then you will be a sorry Drill Sergeant.
2) Be prepared to step your game up a notch. As DS we have to remain motivated in order to keep those troops motivated. If you're sick that day, just suck it up until you can get to a doctor. Trust me battles, you're 1SG does not want to hear that you are sick and can't push troops, especially if he/she is a DS Alumni.
3) Watch your doggone six at all times! Battles, you're gonna do something that is totally against the regs to those young Warriors, I can guarantee it. As long as you aren't trying to have relations with them you should be good if you make sure your BN CDR or CSM isn't on site.
4) Number 3 opens up a can of worms for number 4. This is the most important of all. DO NOT F#$K THE PRIVATES. It's not worth you losing money and your career and your freedom over. As a matter of fact, just be their teacher, mentor, etc, etc, etc and not their friend.
5) Last, but not least, if those Warriors are not in the proper position (parade rest, attention, etc)it means that you are trying to start an improper relationship with them. Do not hook up with the Privates, hook up the Privates with a quick class on the position of parade rest, attention, etc by putting them in the proper position.
Teach 'em right the first time and you won't have to repeat yourself
NCOs lead the way!!!
