This attached slide show shows the new proposed promotion system. Keep in mind that none of this is official yet. It does point out some major changes that will be made in the near future, if it is approved. This came down from my local PSB not too long ago.
EDIT: My attachment is too big to upload here. Someone who can upload it, please send me a PM and I will e-mail it to you so you can host it and submit the link here.

Is this the one that was mentioned in the Army Times back in Sep/Oct '06? I think that system rearranged how points were distributed and put emphasis in other areas and also gave points for combat experience. Never found out if you could use past combat experience for it. This new one intrigues me

The only thing I see that a soldier can suffer on, from an enlisted medical stanpoint is that for example a 68W who gets assigned to a Field unit....that goes to NTC, that deploys can rack up awards fairly easy, if he/she busts their butt, and has rewarding NCO's. However, a 68W who gets assigned to a MEDDAC....well besides the soldier of the month/qtr/yr...there really is NOTHING extra beyond the call of duty that soldier can do to get an award, as the mission does not have any things deserving of that. So to me awards are still very much NOT under the control of the soldier him/herself. Awards really depend on what unit, command, and leadership you are under.
just used 68W as an example....that can happen to any soldier/mos...depending on the TYPE of assignment they get.
However, no system will EVER be perfect ever......... all in all I think its a GREAT re-vamp...and long overdue.

I really don't like the removal of the board and commander's points. It may seem unfair to some, but the subjective criteria is probably the best way to determine leadership qualifications.

The brief you have, as stated on the first slide, was "pre-decisional." I'm not exactly sure how you received that information but it is significantly out of date. The change to semi-centralized promotion policy, as announced in the 25 Sep 06 Army Times, has been approved for implementation in conjunction with DIMHRS, recently delayed until Aug 08. I recommend you read the Army Times article to learn more about the changes and stay tuned as more will be announced as we get closer to DIMHRS implementation.

Looks like there will not be any changes until late 2008.

I got this slide show in my email a few days ago...and spent a LONG time going over it with some of my soldiers...it seems like a really good revamp, however my 800 hours of correspondence courses just went in the trash pretty much...max points is at the 300 hr level...
I do see some issues also in the 68w MOS, with all the ASI training that is counted to military training, the straight 68Ws (medics) are going to have trouble keeping up...but maybe not, cause you can only count 50 points in that kind of training.
I guess I am just interested to see it in action. I know I need to focus my efforts differently now.
I am positive we'll see some more guidance on all of this in the future. I really would like a revision of AR 600-8-19 before this new system takes effect, with the regulation posted but not taking effect until the new system does. This would give us all a confirmation on all the promotion changes and guide us in the right direction to progress our careers.
