I think you are going to be good before you even leave the sandbox...but I think its more important for you to work 2 paygrades ahead. like me for example I am going to the board next month and there is no way I will get promoted and I know it. I should of been working on my e6 while i was trying for my Sgt stripes.
I do know that it is you against the other people in your MOS. So just keep adding what ever you can until you know you have beat out most of the others. Look at the promotion trend report and see in what percentage do you stand. If you are in the top 50 of your MOS you will have a short wait.
And I fully plan on taking advantage of NCI myself because that and awards is where I am lacking right now. You have no control over awards. But everything else save for the board you do have control over.
Make sure you also are prepping for the new promotion system. Because as I look at it, alot of people are going to have to start over. I know I am on the corrspondence courses because they want completes and i only have subs.

Im in finance so I know what its like to need high level of points. If your a even remotely smart individual but cant learn in an online environment you can always just take some clep tests. They are free to take at the ED center and are free to service members and can give alot of civilian ed points.

Go ordnance thanks for the good advice. Thats the only thing I was lacking on is civilian education. But luckily when I left the Marines I had my all my MCI'S done. Also I just occurred to me after reading this that all them classes I got during boot camp should convert over for some college credit. At least thats what they told me when I was getting out. So needles to say I will be at the education center tomorrow. Also I am going to check out the links AR posted.
