I have been an E5 for 10 months as I was promoted while on deployment. I (finally) got my TPU transfer orders to serve in the position I was promoted into back in Decemeber of last year. Technically I will have 11 months TIG as an E5 but will only have begun my duty position when the orders take effect in November. Does that 11 months count for my TIG, and could I put my E6 packet in? Or would I have to wait until this time next year to have 11 months TIG in my duty position? Thanks! SGT Magee
Thank you Chief. I guess what I am asking is am I able to submit an E6 packet before the year in that duty position is up? If selected, would the new orders and duty position take place of/supercede the previous one?
Like I said, time in grade is based strictly on your promotion date. I have no idea what the current TIG requirement is to go to SSG but if you meet it, then you can submit your packet assuming the leadership will back it. Not sure what you mean by new orders and duty position superseding the old on. Obviously if you get promoted it will supersede your SGT rank. As far as your position goes though that is entirely up to your leadership. If there is a position open for a SSG then there is a good chance you will be put in that position. If not, then you probably won't change jobs. When I was a SGT I was a team chief (a SGT position). When I pinned on SSG I should have moved up to be a section SGT but there wasn't an opening so I stayed in my current position. If that is a relatively short term situation (year or less) I really don't see it as a big deal. Once you start spending a year or more in a position under your grade I would be concerned.
