We've all seen those cadence CDs at clothing sales. Most of them aren't very good, they aren't free, and you can normally only find them at the MCSS.
So, here's the idea: 1. We create a network of soldiers with home recording equipment. 2. Record soldiers singing cadence found on the ASG. 3. Publish it online where everyone can download it for free.
Now, feedback. Is this a dumb idea? Is anyone interested in participating? Is anyone else equiped to record?
It sounds like a great idea. After all that's what this site is all about. Pooling the resources of soldiers to create a FREE place where soldiers can get information to help them out in thier military careers. It's amazing how many soldiers don't sing cadences just because they don't know them.

I don't know what type of access I will have to audio equipment in the future, as I am leaving for Kuwait within the next week, but I would LOVE to cotribute to this project, as I have quite a vast repitoire of cadence and most people say that I am very good at it. I will get back in touch as soon as I am on the ground over there and let you guys know.
To be honest with ya, I have no idea how this stuff works. DWC has introduced the idea and from his past experience with recording equipment, I think it would be a goog guess that he knows what needs to be done.
If DWC wanted, a site could be put up that he would have control of. He could add pages, upload files, all that fun stuff. It would all be done online and I am pretty sure that we could set the file size limit for the downloads to whatever he needed.

As soon as I get some spare time, I'll figure out how to work it.
MiniDisk recorder I'm going to say is a no-go.
Right off I will say that I need wave files at at least 44.1 Kh, microphone a SM-57 or better, and no effects.
I will first need 2 beat tracks which I think I can do just by recording my own boots (all though other people's boots would add to realism) and running shoes. After that I just need a lot of voices. 4-10 good cadence callers and as many others as I can find.
I just conscripted a good friend of mine into this project. He is working on a synthesized beat track. Just got a sample last night and it's pretty good. Just a little more tweeking because he is not very familiar with the sound of a platoon on the march.
