Saturday I went to lunch with the other career counselor in my office. We went to Pizza Hut, who by the way offers a decent military discount.
A man approached us as we were eating, asked what branch we were in, had we been too Iraq, then offered to pay for our meals. We refused, but I suggested instead he go to the local Walgreens and find the box marked "Operation S.O.S." and put $10 worth of snacks in there (Operation SOS [support our soldiers] is a local group that sends care packages). He agreed and we continued to eat pleased with the fact that his contribution would go to the guys who could actually use it.
When we finished the meal, we discovered that the bill had already been paid by someone else. Well, we tried anyway.
My parents told me that they had tried to pay for the meals of two Soldiers a few months back. The two soldiers told my parents that they could not acceot it, but thank them for offering.
I heard stories down here about Soldiers that were fueling up their car and when they went in to pay for the gas someone had beat them to it.
There was a local restaurant down here that would often give the Soldier a free meal by not charging them. Mos did not realize until they looked at the receipt.
some people and business go out of there way to take care of the troops.
Cool story BTW

cool...maybe you guy's can clarify my story. I'm in a bar in Atlanta "hartsfield Airport" throwing a few back when I get this beer at my table. I'm wearing civies "except dogtags" at least attempting to blend in. I ask the waiter where it had come from; she points to a slender man who favors Paula Abdul...with an adams apple. I feel a bit bad considering it could have been a "thanks soldier moment"...or it could have been a "hey there sailor moment" :/
