I arrived to Germany on an unaccompanied tour. Prior to my deployment I flew back home and married my wife. It took me multiple submissions of paperwork and months to get her command sponsorship but that is a whole other story. My problem is now that the government won't pay for her shipment of HHG (which she is too stubborn to lose one ounce of) to Germany. I have even had my IPCOT approved after my marriage. I am stuck with this situation and it is putting a major strain on my marriage. I just want my wife here with me before I deploy again!

If you get married after you have already arrived in Germany and shipped your stuff, your out of luck. You are authorized one move per PCS. Now then when it comes time to leave Germany, you can have transportation make your pickup from two locations (yours in Germany, and wherever your wife's stuff is) but until then either the stuff doesn't move or you have to pay out of pocket.

When I was about to re-enlist, the way that the career counseler explained my IPCOT to me was that my wife could come over "no problem". This is becoming a huge problem! Right now it is $90 for every 100lbs. Now I have to try to get her to dump all sorts of stuff to go from a three bedroom to a two bedroom which is in Germany so you already know how small it is compared to most places in the states. The CoC in my Company are completly behind me and know that this doesn't sound right with my IPCOT and all. I have already received some advice from some well-placed civilians in the government. I have a couple ideas but I don't want to do anything drastic without some sound advice from someone with some real experiance in OCONUS.

The Joint Federal Travel Regulation is the regulation that covers the movement of HHG, and payment of travel allowances.

quote:
U5203 BASIC ENTITLEMENTS
A. General. Members are entitled to dependents’ PCS travel and transportation allowances (except as indicated in par. U5203-B) for travel between points authorized in this Volume. Unless otherwise specified in this Part, the entitlement conditions in Part B apply. Except for travel by mixed modes under par. U5105-E, dependents’ PCS travel and transportation allowances are:

quote:
B. When Dependents’ Travel and Transportation Allowances Are Not Payable. Members are not entitled to dependents’ travel and transportation allowances:

2. When a dependent:

c. is not a dependent on the effective date of the PCS order (see Appendix A) (entitlement to allowances in pars. U5215-I and U5240-G is unaffected);

The two exceptions listed at the end there talk about exceptions due to medical care, court martial, change in tour restrictions, etc and do not apply to your situation.
