Where to start... A friend of mine told me about the 15k to join, why not! I left active duty in 2000 as a 31F. I joined the reserves in 2001 in a transportation unit because I was told that was all there was close to me. I never went to AIT to be 88M, but that's what my job was I guess. We moved, a bunch (married a sailor)... long story short, I left with an "uncharacterized" discharge or something to that effect because I didn't attend drill. Now... I'm in the Guard on a Try One as an 88M.
I'm hearing different stories when I ask questions. Where can I find facts? Recruiter says I go to MOS school, become qualified as 88M, sign 6 year contract and I'll get my bonus. Alright, makes sense... I don't want to be 88M, I want to transfer to a Signal unit and be 31F (or 25, whatever they changed it to), he says no point because I am not bonus eligable because my Reserve discharge.
I only left the reserves once... I'm bonus eligable if I am 88M qualified, but not 31F qualified? I remember before I signed up, he said both MOS's are bonus eligable, but now I'm signed up he says I can't get my bonus as a 31F because I left the reserves uncharacterized... with no mention of the MOS itself being non-eligable.
I can't get a straight answer from him, and I'm afraid to ask my unit since I just got there and want to bail on them. Where can I get facts?

If you have already enlist and swore with the Guard as 88M then if you try changing your mos they are able to refuse you your sign on bonus. I know a recruiter that braggs about signing people into high fail mos just so the have to reclass and lose their sign on bonus(*sshole). Good luck with your dilema
