My girlfriend had enlisted in the LA NG 3 months ago and has been going to drill. After 3 weekends of it she decided she wanted something more and wants to go marines. Even though this disgusts me, i support her. She has tried to get the paper work to no longer be attached to NG but the RSP unit is telling her she cant do it and that if it she did it would be under other than honorable. And also fed her some BS about how they have spent money and she's gonna have to pay them back. I know these are just sorry attempts to get new recruits, and ive been active for the last year in the NG, so i know thats not how things work. But i cant find the right articles or w/e to disprove wat they are saying and get her sgt off her butt. advice anyone?

Once the NG gets a person to sign the contract, the first time they go to drill that contract is valid. So they are not feeding you some BS, she would have to be discharged from the NG before she could enlist in another branch.
I am an Active Duty Recruiter and we get that situation all the time with NG troops wanting to go active after they find out how lame it is. And there is nothing we can do because the first time they go to drill they belong to the NG even if they havnt even been to basic yet.
Her best bet is to see if they will release her to go active duty.

Even if there is a program to transfer from the Army to the Marines she would have to be released by her CO. If they are against her doing this then it might be a difficult task to achieve. Sorry I couldn't help much, good luck with this issue.

No it wont. A RE-3 is waiverable, please if you dont know exactly what you are talking about dont post that info, since it will confuse people.

To the OP,

If you been in the Guard then you know that as soon as you sing the first contract you are in the NG, its not like the Active side where you have DEP, then you ship. She is in the NG, now if she wants out it would be a discharge and up to the CO if they want to let her go, she signed a contract, how about she fulfills it?

Besides, what happens when she goes to the Marines, with probably an other than honorable (as her unit said) and the Marines turn her down b/c they dont want to deal with the waivers or maybe she cant even get a waiver? Now she is not in the NG or the Marines...has she tought about going Active duty?

Actually to clarify everything a release from the NG goes all the way up to the state level . A NG CO isnt the final approving authority, thats why it is so hard to get released from the NG. But it is possible.
I just had a NG PFC come into my office wanting to go active, it took about a month for his release to come back, but it came back approved.
They wont release someone to join another branch though.
