hey....I am a 91X... I am stationed at Ft Bragg, NC and yes i work at the hospital. there are alot of assignment opportunities. you work inpatient like i do(its a babysitting job for the most part. then there is outpatient where you actually do counseling and psych testing. there is also room for us in the field. the Army has CSC (combat stress control) teams. and you can also be assigned to any other field medical unit. in those field units, you never do your MOS. you sit in the motor pool or you clean weapons or do some other detail. the only time you would do 91X duties in a field unit, is when you deploy and have a patient to see from the front lines maybe. i will be honest, once you are an E-4, the promotion slows way down. you must be maxed out on almost everything...ie- civilian education, military education, promotion board, weapons....etc. this is part of the reason i am reclassing. also, it is hard to get to do the HOOAH stuff such as airborne, air assault...etc...but it is possible if you push the right people. you will however get a shot at the EFMB (expert field medical badge) probably the most prestigious badge in the Army. it is very hard to earn. many try 5,6,7 times or more. but anyway, good luck.

Hospitals aren't the only places that you can go. Don't forget the CSH's and the Field Hospital. I spent 3 1/2 years at Ft. Polk, La. with the 115th Field Hospital. We spent loads of time in the field but I loved it. Also 86th CSH and 10th CSH as well. There are a lot of division Mental Health slots to. So to sum it up...We can go anywhere with any unit especially since the media is finally starting to put some serious pressure on the Army about all the claims of PTSD (which %99.9 are false).

The role of the 91X has changed since this war on terrorism has come along. 91X's are no longer being assigned to MEDDAC's anymore. We can be assigned in support battalions in infantry brigades, combat stress control units, combat support and field hospitals, division mental health, and the MEDDAC. There is one slot for us in the ranger battalion and in Special Operations Command. The army as a whole is starting to realized the importance of mental health and how we should be used. The reason why our points are so high is because the pyramid affect. We have limited amount of E-8 positions which make it hard for E-7's to advance, E-6's cant advance because of the E-7's. E-5's cant advance because of the E-6's, And E-4's cant advance because of the E-5's. Once a year the points drop for promotion to E-5 but that only happens if people retire, ETS, change MOS, or get promoted.
Just doing what it takes to get my butter bar.
