I think of my self as knowing way too much about Riley (been here since 97) shoot me a PM, I'll answer any of your questions. Also, DoubleDuce was a 12B here for some time so he may have some engineer answers for you.

I think many people might think of Korea more as a "real" duty station than Ft. Riley.

Usually the single guys don't like it because "there's nothing to do".

Personally I liked it and wouldn't mind going back.

Well because for the most part it's true. Fort Riley is situated in one of the worst military towns I've ever seen. Junction City is a white-trash haven. The whole town is littered with cheap rundown titty bars, pawn shops, and dingy trailer parks. There's absolutely nothing to do in that town, whether you be single, married, with kids, whatever. Unless of course you like hanging out at Wal-Mart on Saturday nights. There is no night life there whatsoever. Your only resort is Manhattan, and even then your only option for a good time is getting drunk with local college kids at bars in Aggieville, who by the way can't stand Fort Riley soldiers, nor do the Manhattan police. Fort Riley is a great place for those who like the outdoors, like fishing, like to hunt, go camping, but if that's not your bag then the place will drive you nuts.
