Hey I am a 25F who is being told the only CONUS place I can go right now is Fort Bliss. I just came down on my orders and was looking for anyones advice or input into the base/city. Any idea how long is takes to get a pinpoint assignment? Thanks for any advice or help

I was a 25M who re-classed to 14E and am at school at Bliss now.

The base is small, but nice. El Paso, the surrounding city, is awesome. It is probably the best I've seen compared to other military towns/cities.

It is clean, people are nice, and it has just about anything and everything you could need. People here could use a lesson in driving though.

New Mexico state line is 15 minutes away. Las Cruces, NM is about an hour away. We are like 5 minutes from the US - Mexico line.

I was just curious about like MWR...how are the golfcourse/gym etc. et.c If you live in the barracks or know how are those...what are some good foods or things to do on and off post?

The golf course is nice, from what I've seen. I've been in class since I've been here. I've got my clubs, but haven't had the chance to dust them off here.

I live in government housing. I haven't seen the barracks, other than the outside. They look nice though.

They've got pretty much any and every food type here. I love Mexican/Hispanic food. Andales is pretty good. Great Margaritas.

My husband had to share a room while he was in the barracks (geo-bach) and it was gross. But not grosser than college dorms I guess.

Jaxom's is a great place to eat- the one by base has a micro-brewery and they sell mini-kegs.

does anyone know what the requirements are on this post (or army wide) for geting off post housing? I'm a SPC (P) in a dead mos in which i can't get promoted, i've only lived overseas and was curious. I wanted to get off post housing and use the housing allowance to buy a house. Thanks for any advice or help

Wow I must look pretty screwed up now with all the posts about Sill and 31st ADA but again my assignment is going to change and I am going SOMEWHERE on Fort Bliss from what I've been told. Any advice on getting a pinpoint assignment now that my orders have been screw up throughly haha

go to this site. Click on soldier services. Log on with your AKO username and password. Click on Action Status. Enter your SSN, select Outbound Assignment Information. Click Submit Query. If you have a pinpoint assignment, it will show up here. I am heading to 3/2 ADA, and dont feel bad about getting moved around. You are not the only one getting pulled around. I am still waiting for my orders to be cut (hopefully by tomorrow) so I can start clearing. Final out date is supposed to be 1 April. We'll see how that goes.
