I'll try to cut this as short as I can, though it's a doozy.

I May 2007, I reenlisted to get 25B. When the orders were cut, I wasn't married. Since I'd been at Fort Hood for a little over 2 years, they decided to PCS me to Huachuca. On July 7, I was married to another soldier in 4ID. I went to Gordon on August 1, and graduated from the course December 17. I managed to call branch for a reassignment back to Hood, but they placed me in 1CAV - which is on an opposite deployment cycle from 4ID. I spoke with numerous individuals at Hood, who assured me that it shouldn't be a problem at all to get me switched over. Last week, I was still signed in to 1CAV. Now, I'm being told by the G-1 at Division that there's an E-7 coming in to 4ID some time in February, and that if 4ID's willing to give him up, they'll make the switch.

HOWEVER, if they aren't willing to exchange, I'm back at square one. And this is February, with an exact time frame unknown. And if this does fail, I'm no closer to seeing my wife... It's her first deployment, and having only seen each other a little over a month since we've been married, she's strained big time. I'd hate to have to rely on two weeks a year for the next 3 years...

Is there any advice, short of a letter to my senator (which I've heard to work, if need be)?

We've already enrolled in the MACP, and both selected to be on the same rotation - so that's set. What gets me, is that you have thousands of soldiers who don't want to deploy, going against their will. Yet one soldier _wants_ to go, and it's like pulling teeth...

Wow, what more amazing than you actual case is that you've been a member almost four years and this is your FIRST post!!!! Big Grin

I really hate suggesting this, but because you probably have been around the block a few times (assuming you're a SFC?), you've probably already talked with your CSM about this situation and if he/she can't fix this problem, you're best bet is probably a congressional.

You'd better have all your ducks in a row and be ready for some negative feedback from your command (but don't let this hold you back).

Well, I tend to be something of a lurker on forums; or, in this case, haven't really had much to say until now... I'm usually pretty laid-back and keep to myself; this case, however, has caused me to change that attitude slightly...

Actually - and this is the part that doesn't seem right in the least - I'm only an E-4 (SPC). I find it odd that they'd consider a trade for someone _that_ high, since I'm unable to fill a slot that far up the ladder anyway.

I did manage to talk to some people again after the initial post above. According to my immediate NCO, our CSM is willing to let me go, no strings attached, without a replacement. He's also informed me that the BN S-6 section isn't authorized an E-7 25B - which makes this whole thing a little _more_ interesting. Final word this afternoon, from the G-1 NCO, is to have my CSM talk with the G-1 CSM to hammer out a deal. The unit's currently on block leave, so it's been agreed that if I'm to move, it should be before everyone gets back. I've only been in the unit for a week, back on post for two - so it'd make sense to get it taken care of before things get too settled.

Your CSM can (and probably will) handle this for you.

Keep us posted.
