Just found out that Fort Sam is in my re-up options and was looking for anyone that has any insight on how it is as a duty station for an E-5(p) 31B.

Ive spoken with several Senior NCO's in my unit and they say its a great place. I would like to get more info then just great place. I am currently deployed to Iraq also.

Well as an E-5(p) you'll definitely be able to live off post if you would like to. The post is normally pretty laid back regardless of what unit you are in. The nightlife is actually really good and depending on what you like to do and what type of music you like I could probably give you a good amount of things to do. There really aren't too many unit sponsered sports teams like other units so if that's something you like then that'll be missing. I actually was there for about 2 years before I PCSed to Ft. Knox and boy do I miss it right now. If you have any questions let me know I'm more than happy to answer any questions.
