I'm going to be coming back from Iraq soon and I know that I'll be close to my 2 year marker at a TRADOC station after my deployment and although I haven't been at Knox long I'd probably end up getting orders shortly after getting back. I figure if it's going to happen I might as well try to take some initiative and try and find a place I want to go.
Ft. Carson just so happens to be a place I'm thinking of. I was wondering a few basic questions.
1. What is the minimal rank to live off post with BAH? I'm currently an E-5 and could probably have my E-6 before I leave my current unit as I'm sure they'll be sending me to the board while I'm still here in Iraq.
2. What is the area like? I heard from several people that Ft. Carson is a great station but no one really put much more effort into explaining why.
3. Anyone know what life is like for a 25B there? I know regardless they deploy but I was wondering more if they actually have a job there or is it ran more by civilians and we are just begging for some kind of privliges.
I believe you can live of post as a E-5, Your BAH wont be has much as married personnel
The area is very nice lots of outdoor activities. From hunting, fishing, skiing and sight seeing. Make sure you check out Garden of the Gods. Mountains surround the post. Fort Carson is the only post I have been. So I really cant compare it to other post.
Don't know about your job. I am 11B I am currently in Iraq, and I have orders to go to FT. Campbell as soon as I come back. I know you station at Knox. Can you tell me anything about Campbell or KY
I'm actually in Iraq right now too LoL I figure when I get back I'm at 6 months till I am able to come down on orders and I'm hopefully going ot be an E-6 by then so being an E-6 in an E-5 slot will probably get me moved quickly so I want to try to take things into my own hands.
I haven't spent too much time going around in Kentucky, I was only there for about 4 months before I deployed and being from Northern Ohio I spent much of my time traveling home or with my best friend from Korea. We normally went ot Louisville to hit up the clubs as Knox doesn't really offer much or we'd head up to Cincinnati to hit those ups. Also there is a Casino if you're interested in that right in Indiana maybe an hour drive from Knox not sure how long it'd be for you.
kentucky does have some nice scenary where I'm at though so you might like it.
