Hey, just some questions. Im in the last 25 days of deployemnt and im out of fort irwin, CA. Im looking to get a Compassionate reassignment to ft. lewis since it is 40 minutes from my parents home. Situation is my dad is falling apart, surgerys left and right, lots of medication, he is barley mobile anymore and my mom is getting the same way and she is having a hard time caring for him and they are by themselves in a 3 story house. Would this grounds for a compassionate reassignment, my parents really need someone there and out of my 5 bro and sisters im the best canidate me being single with no kids. They all have familys and kids established, they all serve in other branches of the military..any info would be a blessing, thanks again
I'll be straight with you. It's going to be very difficult but you should try and when it seems like there's no use, keep trying. I'm in the same situation. My mother has cancer. I went on emergency leave and was attached to SOUTHCOM in Miami for 60 days. After my mother's surgery I found out she would need chemo for 7 months. I had it all, doctor's letters, Chaplain recommendations, the whole nine and when my paper work went up, it was denied in less than 24 hours. I was sent an EMAIL to return to my unit in less than 2 days. I live in Miami and had to drive back to Fort Hood! Anyhow, was back at my unit, I submitted the paper work again...and it was finally approved (but with two options). Either return to Miami for 120 days or PCS to a location in Georgia....so I took the PCS. Now I'm waiting on orders. Bottom line is I could have quit in May but I stuck with it. I even wrote my congressman(it was recommended to me). The bottom line is these are your parents. You have to do what you feel is best for them! Just deal with it in a professional manner and have lots of patience. The powers that be will try everything to make it easier for the Army, not the soldier. All you need is a 3739 to start the ball rolling. A 4187 is not needed. You'll need doctor's letters saying why your being near is important. You should see a Chaplain as well. Good Luck.
