I did not like Ft. riley too much. There is KSU about 30 min from post so the soldiers tend to clash with the KSU students. Junction city, which is right outside of post is kinda trashy. Alot of strip clubs and bars. I dont know if they are still doing this but when i left in 2002 some units were doing PT in the afternoon insted of at 0630. On post housing is really nice if your E-4 or above.

Two infantry battalions there, both mechanized. 1-41 IN is under the 1st AD and 1-16 is under 1st ID. There aren't so many strip clubs since Junction City re-zoned, and if you stay out of Silverados the college students won't pick so many fights with you. I actually like the lower enlisted housing (Colyer Manor) better than the mid level housing; older, but better constructed.

The facilities aren't the best since it's a smaller post, but it's been steadily improving over the past few years.

The command structure is fairly strange since you have the 1st BDE 1st ID and 3rd BDE 1st AD falling under the 24th ID that runs the post.

There are no light units. As an infantryman be prepared to do a lot of antiarmor, breaching, and tasking out to the engineers for wire detail.

If you have any more specific questions feel free to PM me, I've lived in the area since 97 and have gotten to know it pretty well.
