How do you have the assignment before you reenlsited? I been here for a while and I think its a nice place, small town right outside the gate with everything you need, Mexico and Tucson are both 1 hour away from here, the place is surrounded by moutains so it takes a couple of weeks to getting used to running here, high elevation. I have not been in 11th SIG and tell you the truth I wouldnt want to, are you signal? Let me know if you want to know anything else, oh we getting a Texas Roadhouse here soon, cant wait....

DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im currently a PFC 63B deployed with 11th Signal BDE, HHC. As a 52C you will prolly go to 86th Sig. BTN that just redeployed. I used to be with that unit. I would not come to this signal unit as ordnance. There is really no training possabilities for you. As far huachuca itself. The post is WAY small, PX is pretty much a quarter of the size of every other PX youve probably ever seen and there isnt a 24hour ANYTHING on huachuca. The only thing really decent about huachuca is the new housing or the barricks...and if you leave in the Bs, you'll have to be worried about having to get stuck cleaning them every week cause everyone leave them dirty and messed up. If your single and under 21 be prepared to stay stuck in the barricks. Sierra Vista (the town outside of Huachuca) has nothing 18 and up. The Mall has maybe 20 stores. most that you wouldnt prolly wanna go in anyway. a red lobster, long horns, and a target...wow your tour of Sierra Vista is over...Tucson is an hour away....after two trips youll be sick of having to drive so far to waste your time in such a wack city....and as far as mexico...if you go to 1th sig BDE, youll never get to go LEGALLY...so if your a single early to mid 20s person dont do it.....in my opinion i would strongly advise you against it. but if your married with kids and you dont really like going out or anything this post is for you. But personally i wouldnt WASTE my re-enlistment on sorry excuse for an installation (MY opinion) oh and the MI AIT is there too...but that dosent really matter.

and now you see that it depends on the person if you will like aplace or not...he hates, I like it...and yes I was here when I was under 21 and yes there is no clubs for under 21...there is one club and the rest are bars (i dont really go out so dont matter to me)...the PX IS small but, way bigger than what I had in Korea so im not complaining...as far as cleaining the barracks well he is a PFC and is probably his first unit so he will realize that that happenes EVERYWHERE...hehehehe...and actually we dont have a Red Lobster so I dont know what he is talking about, Longhorns? we have one?

We have a Chilis, Applebee's, Outback, Buffalo wild wings, Golden Corral, Peter Piper Pizza, etc and other smaller restaurants that are just local oh and El Paso Restaurant too. I can see that ccm10 is young and likes to go out and party b/c his view of this post is that of someone that likes to go out and party and is probably under 21 as he complains about not having anything to do off post...

ccm10, what is the policy in 11th SIG to go to Mexico? Last time I went it was just getting the Commanders approval (not in 11th though) and now of course a new policy (not Army) requires people to show proof of citizenship when crossing the border back to the US, passport, birth cert, etc and no driver's license does not count.

sorry, when i said red lobster i meant chili's lol. As far as the barracks..i know cleaning is a must...but in the thundervillage barracks its HORRIBLE they have no respect for where they live...instead of taking their trash to the dumpster 500 feet away ppl leave their stuff right at the stair wells...but maybe it is like that every where i cant see how ppl live that way.

As far as mexico, we have to get a DA 31 signed, commander brief and S-2 brief but alot of 11th sig soldiers have had problems went they go to mexico so pretty much they tell us even if we do all the stuff to go its against their judgment to let us...remember when all those cartels were killing ppl on the boarder towns? thats when they got REAL strict. i like to party...thats true but i think alot of it has to do with that its such a small town in the middle of no where...im from a larger city in the south. so when i got to sierra vista it kind of threw me off...but i will say (even tho i havnt done any of it) alot of ppl say the cultural stuff is another great thing about the area i.e. Tombstone and such.

It is a good place if you like outdoors. There is a lot of places to go hiking, climbing, riding and caving. It is a very boring town overall though. The MI AIT is a problem as there are fraternization issues that often arise and result in the loss of rank.

I was only there for 6 months but I enjoyed it. Good weather, quiet, and scenic. However, Sierra Vista is small and you will always see the same people. You will see some illegal's running through the post, followed by border patrol choppers- in fact I saw more border patrol than actual police officers in that area. Tuscon is only an hour away if you need to get away from the military. It's almost like the wild west out there...

What is wrong with 11th??? Really, people fussin' bout the duty station...The place your at is always worse then your last assignment.

I love Huachuca! I had found so much do to and see till I deployed with 40th. City people hate it I guess...Sad because its beautiful there. I love the post and the mountains! I loved driving out west gate and heading over to Parker canyon lake for camping or to sonoita for some wine tasting or spending time with a friend who owns a horse ranch in the area.

The rules are pretty loose and things are pretty chill there. The only issue I ever had, was dealing with whining folks and people on power trips. Even privates jump on the power trip...

If I had to stay there I would, over all it is a nice place and I really enjoy it. But being from the west coast, I didn't join the army to stay on one post! If I reup this next year, I hope for Germany or Hawaii.

... What? How would you know how big every other PX is? I know more then a few PXs that are the same size and SMALLER then Huachuca's. And no, the Huachuca really isn't that small, if you would take the time to go outside and look around, you'd be surprised at the size of it. Lots of trails to run, hike and drive on! have you gone hiking in Garden Canyon? That is part of Fort Huachuca.

I'm under 21 and am NEVER "stuck" in the barracks.

Why would you say that? The mall is a very nice size for the size that sierra vista is! And what is wrong with the shops?

Again, why do you say that? I've gone to mexico a few times and it was legal everytime I went. You put the right paperwork in and plan for it, it'll happen.

What?? My married friends with families always had somethin fun to do and were never bored.

Your opinion may need to be rethought.

Well seeing ones at Jackson, Bliss, and my old RESERVE post made me think that...the actual functional parts of the post are small

I just reenlisted for Huachuca (Tucson native) but have never been there or in the area. I am going to HQ NETCOM as an 88M20, so I'm guessing I'm going to work in G4 or as a staff driver, can anyone tell me about the unit? Also how is housing for single NCOs, or are they granted BAH? Are there alot of cops or highway patrol in the area? (I have a heavy foot, a symptom of the car I drive) I'm not much for nightlife besides some 'night-time driving meets' Wink so that doesn't matter that much. Also, does the post have a car-craft center and what kind of condition is it in?
