I am currently stationed in Korea and on orders to go to Fort Sill. When I get home I have plans to get married... when will I get TDY to move my wife with me and what are the chances of being able to get into on post housing when I arrive? I would appreciate the helpful advice thanks
It's going to be a little harder for you since you will be arriving at FT Sill with orders that say No Dependants. Now on post housing upon showing up at Ft Sill again your not married on the orders you have now, and either way their might be a waiting list. In some cases you might be better off living off post, where they don't take all of your BAH. Again just because you arrive at Ft Sill married, your orders that you have right now or will be getting soon do not reflect that, so in no way is a house going to be waiting for you on post because you get married on leave. Call your gaining unit if you know who they are (did you get a sponser?) and ask them how this whole process will work.
I would say once you get to Ft Sill, after your married, ask them for an Amendment to your orders saying that you now have dependants. Then you might be able to get Permissive TDY to move your family, now Permissive TDY I believe is time to find a place to live, not go back home, get a U-haul and move your family. Could be wrong but I think that is what I have read in previous posts.
just had this same situation happen to me. Once you get to Fort Sill you will inprocess and have to get your orders amended. Id say make sure you have at least 3 copies of your marriage certificate. I'm going to assume that your new wife will be traveling with you? Well either way if you are newly married and looking for own post housing...you can pretty much forget it. I was in the same boat..newly married and asked for it..and im in position 300 on the waiting list for a 2 bedroom house. Anyways inprocessing here takes 2 days and then you should be able to put in for 10 days ptdy. Those 10 days should give you long enough to find a place no problem. There are tons of cheap apartments around here. Any other questions drop me a line

SGT Hayes, I'm in the exact same situation, but heading to Lewis. So...you went ahead and took your wife with you, got your orders amended, then they gave you the 10 days TDY? What did you (and her) do for housing while you were inprocessing? Was there lodging available (even though she wasn't on your orders?) or did you just have to rent a hotel for her? Thanks.
