Everybody in El Paso has no common sense when it comes to driving. There's barely anything on post, and not much to do in El Paso. It's always sandy so doing PT in the afternoon is almost impossible unless it's indoors.
I couldn't stand running there, because I was use to the Fort Bragg air.

Stationed here at Ft. Lost in the Woods. Home of the engineers, chemical, and MPs. This is one hick country town. I'm a homebody, but I can only drive so many times to Springfield or St. Louis to go to the mall. The two biggest employers: the post and Wal-Mart. If you're coming here as part of TRADOC (i.e. you're an instructor - AIT, B/ANCOC, OBC - or a drill sergeant) then you have a LITTLE something to keep you busy until the weekend or cycle break. If you have teenagers, be prepared for more whining than when they were toddlers on a road trip. As far as the towns outside post - at least Bliss has El Paso. We're in the country. I'm glad I'm a drill. At least I'm too tired to worry about having nothing to do on the weekend - mainly because I'm WORKING!!!
Just my two cents to start some $#!+  Engineers clear and build the way!!!!! Air Assault!!! Essayons! -Who will train the privates? Not everyone can be a drill sergeant

ft bliss is the worst possible post EVER. do not get stationed there for any reason. also, dont even think of joining the air defense artillery. they are easily the biggest morons in the army. poor leadership all around.
el paso- horrible drivers. nothing to do on or off post. juarez has cheap booze. drinking age on post is only 18 if youre military. other then getting drunk, dont expect to do anything remotely fun at ft bliss/el paso.
I did basic at Leonardwood back in 93. What an experience! Glad I did but wouldn't want to do it again lol. I went back there in Dec to visit my cousin, he's a 1st sgt up there. Drove around alot. It's a big place. Drove by the sapper school at least once a day while I was there to drool.
"and yet it happens"

Been to Lost-in-the-Woods many times, I actually like it there, lol, but I'm an outdoorsy kinda gal. We were at Bliss for 2 years. It took a while to get used to it, but I ended up loving it there and would not be upset AT ALL if we went back. I loved our unit, our house on post, they had a ton of things for families to do, including weekend childcare (I really miss that) and I really liked El Paso. It had it's positives and negatives, as any base does, but the good far outweighed the bad for us! Mel

I'm an MP so I have been back to FLW several times in the past 7 years. The thing that always surprises me is that very little has changed since the first time I went there. Just like grlrplmstr said it is home to MPs, Engineers, and Chemical so there is a huge turnover of troops coming to attend schools, and tons of families coming to attend Basic Training graduations... yet the only think the surrounding cities can figure out to do to take advantage of all this potential commerce is build hotels. There are a few shity clubs and a few restaurants. Nothing special. I haven't seen a movie theatre that bad anywhere else since 1989 back before stadium seating, etc.
I am a former Air Defender, now in the Signal Corps. I have been to Fort Bliss plenty of times for my schooling and various missle live fires. For the guys who say that Bliss is a shitty post, and there is nothing to do in El Paso, makes me wonder what kind of lifestyle they had growing up. Fort Bliss and the El Paso community have plenty to offer if you are willing to go out and find things to do. El Paso is a large city, and if you can't find anything to do then, you are hopless, you hav New Mexico only hours away (more stuff to do there) so if you get of your butts and get out a explore you'll find alot to do. However if you are the outdoors type (i.e. huntind, fishing) then you are in the wrong place, its the desert man, none of that to really do there. As far as Air Defense having bad leadership all around, I don't think that could be said about any particular MOS unless you have been to every unit and met every soldier in the unit. I will say this I was a Stinger/Avenger Section Sergeant, and in my opinion our other half the Patriot crewmembers are spoiled.
STAY READY to keep from GETTING READY!
