I'm going to be re-enlisting more than likely for Ft. Knox to be closer to home and I was wondering if I could get information about how the post and the surrounding community is like. What there is to do etc. I'm a SPC(P) 25B so any help would be greatly appreciated.

So no one currently has any information on how Ft. Knox currently is because the newest information I found anywhere else on this forum is from 2005.

I grew up in that area. It is just outside of a few very small towns (Shepherdsville, Bardstown, Lebanon Junction, Elizabethtown, Radcliffe) and just outside Louisville (15-20 min drive). If you like fishing and hunting, this is the place for you! Louisville has a Six Flags in it, and University of Louisville. That means a decent party scene. There are also museums, the Kentucky Derby, and some river activities. Louisville isn't very extraordinary. Really.
Ft.Knox is home to a BCT. TRADOC! Good luck with that. I don't know much about the post, just the surrounding area. Weekend trips can include St. Louis, Cincinnati, Chicago, Nashville, or Indianapolis. All are within 4 hours of driving, Chicago being the furthest. Hope this helps.

Yeah that's a bit more helpful than what I could find before. I'm a big football/basketball fan both college and pro so I figured that'd be decent at least just from knowing that the Wildcats, Cards, Bengals, etc are around that area. I'm also from norther Ohio so that gives me a 6 hour drive home.

Thank you very much for the information Scraming96B.

I'm stationed here at Ft. Knox. I've only been here about a month so I'm still getting a feel for it. In my experience being here I've put in more hours here then back in the line. We support all of the Armor LTs courses so if we are not doing SLC we got BOLC or COE etc. Constantly on the go. And FYI this post is full of Physical profiles and guys that cannot maintain AR 600-9. Life in a non-deployable unit I guess.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

That's still a bit of help. But what is your job and your MOS as I'm not sure what I'd be doing there as a 25B.

I typed a much longer reply earlier, however; it didn’t post so you will be getting the meat and potatoes of what I was going to say.

I’m a SGT 19D Cavalry Scout. My responsibilities here at Ft. Knox is to support the Armor/Cavalry courses.

For example: Say we have SLC (Scout Leaders Course) coming up. SLC will give us a list of equipment/personnel that they need to accomplish the mission. 10 Brads; 5 HMMWVs; 50 M16s; 5 drivers etc. We draw out the vehicles/equipment and assign drivers to maintain those vehicles. Once the mission is complete we recover with some help of the new Lieutenants, they are still learning so they aren’t to much of a help during the recovery process. Once we recover we turn everything back into MIF and get really for the next course which could be a day or two later and do it all over again.

I'm not really sure what a typical day for a 25B here is. But I can tell you that this post is ran by cilivians, they control almost every aspect of this place...I've never seen anything like it.

As far as leisure activities are concerned, Ft. Knox offers all the best in dining. Burger King, Anthony’s Pizza and Charley’s just to name a few. It has a nice size PX, a Movie Gallery, Bowling Alley, Water park, and a little club called the Rocker II. It's all really nice to me, but my standards aren't to high. I PCSed from Germany where we only had a BK and a small PX on post...take that with a grain of salt.

I remember about three years ago when I was reporting to Knox for OSUT one of my favorite activities to do was the count how many Thorobreds (strip club) there were along 31W. I counted at least 10 of them, now there are only two…KY cleaned house a bit. In my opinion that stretch of 31W is pretty trashy, strip clubs here and there, porn shops, cash advances and gas stations. A redneck’s paradise but it’s not my cup of tea.

If you have any more questions let me know.
