OK so it looks like..Ill be going to FT ELVIOR and well...I need to know the bad about this post trust me...I know all bases have good and bad but...Ive been doing searching on line about this base and really not that much information...please can anyone tell me something about this post...
I also have a EFMP who has Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy and other medical problems.. she is not suppose to be in cold damp climates and bang I get this post... Im at FT HOOD and actually been here 5 years and we have had no problems with the RSD.... since we been here as a matter of fact it got better for her now.. Im stuck going...since my mos is limited to what bases to go too...
I have been on Belvoir for 3 years with an EFMP child. There are incredible hospitals in this area, Bethesda, Children's, Georgetown, and several other Pediatric Hospitals. There are A LOT of EFMP children here so they are used to the special circumstances...do you know which unit you will be coming to? We really only have a Signal, MP, and Engineer units here...I am at HQBN/Special Acts w/other compassionate reassignments who had no open slots for their MOS at Belvoir but needed a spot. Belvoir is a cake post...no field time, no ftx, hardly any training, at least in my unit. Housing is incredibly nice...some are older than others, but with your child's condition, I would get a letter from your doctor stating that he/she needs to be in a newer house w/no mold, moisture, etc. and you will get priority for a newer house. My husband and I are both E4s and we were living in a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom townhouse for the last 2 1/2 years. We just recently moved offpost to save BAH. Any specific questions you have about the post?? It's very civilianized...Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, the whole 9, and you can see uniformed soldiers going in and out of Starbucks at all times of day...pretty amusing to me sometimes.
BE the standard.

+1 to 325i's post. (Although I was at Ft Meade, not Belvoir.)
IF you get any CIF, it's not much. The DC Area has horrendous traffic, people are a little more crabby than other places,
BUT you also get the chance to go see your nation's capitol at your leisure. Check out the Mall, museums, Smithsonian (Especially the BIG Air&Space at Dulles Airport,) etc...
It is more wet there than TX, hope it works out for you!
I was deployed to Fort Belvoir for about a year and lived in the DC Metro area for about 6 years.
I agree with 325i...the medical facilities that you will have available to you are top-notch. While I have no children, I have been to Bethesda and the amount of care that I received there was top notch.
The traffic is horrible (so bad that when I moved to DC Proper, I sold my car and took METRO and did car sharing when I needed it), but you can make it work. When making trips to the City or even Arlington, you should park at the METRO station closest to Belvoir and take the train in. Saves the parking headache.
A tip: when going to the commissary, try the one at Bolling AFB in DC. It always seemed less crowded. I can't really remember the commissary at Belvoir. Hardly went when I was there.
You will also be close to Potomac Mills (if you like outlets, highly recommended).
What other info would you like? I loved living in the DC metro.
