I am reclassing and report to school at FT Huachuca AZ on 13 May. I selected the TDY Enroute option that will allow me to settle my family at my new duty station (FT Lewis) prior to reporting to FT Huachuca for school.
My orders state:
"ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS: (K) SOLDIER ELECTS TO MOVE DEPENDENTS FROM PRESENT CONUS STATION TO NEW CONUS DUTY STATION PRIOR TO REPORTING TO THE TDY STATION. SOLDIER UNDERSTANDS THAT THE GAINING COMMANDER MAY AUTHORIZE UP TO 10 DUTY DAYS TO SETTLE FAMILY, EITHER IN GOVERNMENT QUARTERS (IF AVALIABLE) OR ON THE LOCAL ECONOMY. AFTER SOLDIER SIGNS INTO THE NEW CONUS DUTY STATION SOLDIER WILL THRN PROCEED TDY FOR SCHOOLING. SOLDIER WILL BE AUTHORIZED GOVERNMENT TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM TDY STATION."
What I am trying to figure out is what exactly I have to do when I get to FT Lewis. I will have my PTDY paperwork when I leave here. I want to know if I need to inprocess, just sign into housing, or try to just inprocess finance. (I am trying to ensure I get the new area's BAH. I am going to try to get on post housing)
I have asked different people and keep getting different answers.
Is there anyone that has done this before?

I work at Hood, so I can only tell you what we do at Hood. But, if a soldier wants to sign their family into housing (or move the deps off post and collect the local BAH rate) before they PCS (TDY en route option) they must bring in their orders, and a housing agreement - either a rental/mortgage from off post or on post. Finance assigns your BAH to the PCS after TDY rate as long as your deps stay at your final PCS station while you are TDY. You will still get Per Diem and all your TDY allowances.
