Hey, just thought i'd say HI to all my fellow 11B's. Also thought i'd ask a question of ya. I begin OSUT in less then 2 weeks and am still confused about if i want mechanized or not. Anything anyone could tell me would be appreciated. I know the main diff is mech ride in a bradley, but theres gotta be more than that. Thanks, and enjoy your day fella's.

Put in your paperwork for active duty and go to Ft Campbell. THat is how I got Air Assault school. It rocks.
I'm 11B, I've been in almost 4yrs. I am currently in Baghdad, but I should be back home in less than 2 weeks. I've been deployed with my unit since Dec 27th 2003. Just FYI for anyone planning on joining the Florida National Guard, it is hard as hell to get Airborne, Air Assult, or any other school for that matter. Well I have to go on one of my last patrols so I will see you all later, bye.

In September o 2002, my company came down with several hard slots when Air Assault school came to Fort Bragg. We all went down there only to find out they were all secondaries instead. They went by rank and at the time I had just gotten my PFC. Needless to say.. I didn't get in when they said we only had 2 slots instead of like 6.
One of the NCOs that got in didn't even make it through because he got hurt. So it was kind of like a wasted slot that one of us could have taken.

For those who are in the infantry and have a wife and kids, how has your MOS impacted your family? Some people have told me that the infantry places a great strain upon marriages and relationships with children because of deployments and manuevers. Does anyone have any insight on this matter?
I have been in the Army for 19.5 years, I have been married twice. My first wife (very young at the time) didn't fully comprehend the total Army package. My current wife of 15 years is very understanding, and manages things quite well. I have six kids (remember birth control after deployments  ) If your relationship is strong you can weather anything. Hopefully this helps. There will be long hours, and have your wife go to Army Family Team Building class provided for free on post. It will help get her "indoctrinated" in the Army lifestyle.

MSG West, Remember that the male soldier is the most virile after a long (femaleless) deployment! I have 3 kids all 8 years apart from each other. Oldest 34, youngest 18 (my only son & he just started OSUT at Benning). Can you guess when I was deployed? Top out.

I'm an 11B in A Co 2-128 INF. Turns out we just got f**ked out of a training rotation to JRTC. We'll eventually get there once we get fully enhanced...

don't go mech better off going either light or airborne. better training and a better mission. mech units usually get abused more often when attached to other units...

Im with the reserve based out of Orlando, a specialist 71L F5 MOS with a previous MOS skill of 11B. I noticed that you guys are saying that its almost impossible to get a Airborne school slot if your not a current 11B or with the reserve. How true is this.
I would think that because the war, slots are easy to come by.

That's what you'd think, Abe. But what happened just before the war was the Infantry including Air Assault, Ranger & Airborne Infantry went overstrength. Slots were hard to get & there were few if any bonuses offered. My son as a DEPer had his MOS changed to 11B after many false starts. Slots just weren't available. One day there were Infantry slots not only available but with a $10,000 bonus to boot. This happened because the freeze was lifted & now all the grunts who would have normally ETSed were getting out leaving an understrength condition. Top out.
