definately go light my friend, as mech i can tell you you will be abused far more when attached to other companies/battalions and that our vehicles and equipment take up all of our money in the battalion that would be otherwise used for troop schools. also in a mech battalion the general attitude seems to be "what do we need airborne for?" the only way to get schools in our bat. is to re-up. one other thing is you will spend a lot of time in the motor pool as a mech guy.

In September o 2002, my company came down with several hard slots when Air Assault school came to Fort Bragg. We all went down there only to find out they were all secondaries instead. They went by rank and at the time I had just gotten my PFC. Needless to say.. I didn't get in when they said we only had 2 slots instead of like 6.
One of the NCOs that got in didn't even make it through because he got hurt. So it was kind of like a wasted slot that one of us could have taken.
Front, Back, GO!
