Ok I know this sounds like a very dumb trivial question. But I am in the DEP now and I leave for basic in July. I saw that my recruiter has a sword on his wall from when he was in infantry. It looked very classy and I was wondering when would I receive one if they still do that. I am 11X right now. Do I have to be expert infantry or do I have to go to some special school? Or do I just get it when I graduate Basic and AIT? Eric L.
Why don't you just worry about graduating OSUT first. Never mind a saber or any of the other paraphernalia. Learn and take to heart what the drill sergeant teaches you. You may be sent to the big sand box shortly after you graduate. Oh, and by the way, the Infantry doesn't "award" sabers. Probably some trinket he was given as a parting gift instead of a plaque.
Eric, Ask your recruiter where he got it. If it was an award or family heirloom he'd probably be proud to tell you. Good luck in Infantry OSUT. My son will finish up the basic phase tomorrow 9Apr then next Monday on to the AIT phase. He really eats it up & is enjoying himself. It's hard but not as hard as he thought. But don't forget I really "prepared" him for the culture shock. You might say I over prepared him. Expect the worst & then your happy when it's not as bad as you thought. He really likes his drills, as mean & tough as they are but then again he'd be disappointed if they weren't. If you wanna be a grunt then you gotta take the hard road. Top out.

Please whatever you do please pay attention to your drill sergeant. I just re-classes as a 63B but I was a 11B and let me tell you everybody will tell you it is hard but really it's what you make it as and believe me it really is hard if you dont prepare, most likely you will be sent to the big sand box, I just came back. I barely got around the stop loss but I got really lucky. HOOAH! As a piece of advice stay away from Victory Drive on payday especially after you finish the basic course(VD) hint.hint. The home of the Infantry, if you go to 2/47 tell SFC Hyde that PFC Beasley really enjoyed the smokings lol

as a graduate of the Harmony Church School of International Relations and Dispute Resolution, i will be one of many to tell you that you ain't gettin no sword when you graduate.
likewise, i will reitterate that you should concentrate on getting through AIT, and doing well @ your first assignment.
later you can go Cavalry, and get the Stetson et al.....
redc1c4, (either that or a bad attitude like some people i know %-)

Haha. Infantry Saber? You might get a SAW. Which rocks in video games... For jumping and IMT'n, not so much... Plus we are the cross rifles... maybe try Cav. I think they have cross Sabres and what nots.
