Hello all I am a pv2 and I am a 19delta I want to take the dlab test and try to learn arabic. I am trying now and I think I am doing pretty good for not being in class. What I want to know is there a guide or anything that can help you study for it?
I answered this same question on an AKO Posting Board earlier this morning. The DLAB is a test to measure your natural ability to learn a foreign language. This type of test is hard to study for because the "language" and the "grammer" are totally made up and not really based on anything. I took it several years ago and thought that I got ALL of the questions wrong because it was confusing, but did pretty well. The only advice I have for you is to understand the concept of how grammer works, do not just know the rules.
Good luck.

im not 100% sure, but im about 99 that if you are a 19D you are not going to be afforded the opportunity to go to the DLI, you would not have much use as a 19D. only 2500 people a year get to go to DLI (IIRC) from all military services, CIA, FBI, etc. thats not many.
I am in a rsta troop and my platoon is MI and scout only... So they are sending us to schools that pertain to our mos. ex airborn air assult sniper ranger, but then we are told that some may go to 97b schools !!!! weird I know but it might happen.
You are sort of correct in the fact that few people go to DLI, but there are two of them. The one on the East Coast has a lot of slots taken by the 3 Letter Agencies, but DLI-FLC in CA has about 1400 Army Student, plus the other 3 branches and no 3 Letter Agencies.
Just keep plugging at the positions that take you place and let you learn.

Not quite sure what you can do at a 97B school because most of it classified and used for only intelligence personnel and you won't be accedited. Everything else can be learned out of FM 34-60 or from the spooks in country.
Please let me know what "schools" your unit's talking about sending you to and I can tell you if they'd do you any good. PM me if you wish.
cbr90097 i have taken the delab within the past 9 months and i have to tell you that it is the hardest and wierdest test i have ever taken. i am not telling you this to discourage you but to give you a heads up so that when you walk in there and start taking it you dont get freaked out. As it was said in previous conversation, the language and grammer in this test are made up. Hence it being the hardest and wierdest. I thought I BOMBED this test when i walked out of that room but as it turned out I did very well and I can learn up to CAT 3 languages. From what I was told and through my research, there are only 4 categories of languages (CAT 4 being the hardest). I am currently learning Farsi and Arabic through rosetta stone on AKO and neither of them are as hard as I thought they would be. Sorry I'm rambeling!! Anyway, the best advise I can offer is to learn and understand the 5 BASIC parts of grammer for english. It helped me alot on the DLAB. Don't worry about it too much though. As long as you know how our language works you shouldn't have a problem with the DLAB. GOOD LUCK!!
When I took the DLAB I googled DLAB and found some useful info. Basically though, you really need to study the rules of grammar and how they work. I took the test twice. I got an 84 the first time, then was told by the test administrator that it was based on the rules of english grammar. I studied grammar some, then later took the test again and got a 127. You won't be able to study for the DLAB, but you can prepare for it by learning and understanding grammar very well.
