I have a question about Military Police. From what i understand there are diffrent types of MPs, i.e. Dog handler,SRT, so on so on. Well when we go to AIT at FT. Elwood do we get to choose what we want to do, i.e. if i want to be SRT i could do SRT. Just wondering. If i got my factswrong please point them out. Thanks for your help guys.

MP School is at Fort Leonard Wood (not sure where you got Elwood from, except an abbreviation)
Also, when you get to your unit after AIT, if there are needs for different specialized MPs, you can either request to attend a course or reenlist for it under Option 3 when you are within 18-months frm your ETS.

Actually... MP's are Infantry with trucks. we don't have badges . And unfortunately, there is not ASI for SRT. And if there is and I'm just an idiot, somebody please tell me what it is.
smitharrr better check 670-1, you are authorized a MP badge for your dress greens.

MP's are infantry with wheels and women (or at least that's what I always say)
As for the MP Badge, refer to AR 670-1 page 311/312 (PDF page 334/335). You are authorized a MP Badge on your Class A's, but only when performing law enforcement duties. The brassard (or now a patch) is used when in your utility uniform, green shirt, etc..
As far as an ASI or a SQI for Special Response Team (SRT), I do not believe there is one. If you look in DA Pam 351-4, it doesn't list any. If you also check out About.com, they have a list of all ASI/SQI:

Uhhh... ok.
How tacky. Your also authorized to wear black combat boots wile performing MP duties in the Class A uniform.
Thanks, SGT Johnson, but I've checked that one before. Thanks anyway though. I'm pretty sure that there's nothing for SRT. Guess I need to go to K9 school now...
MP is a great MOS. SRT is not an ASI unfortunately. I'm actually going K-9 sometime the begining of next year. there is also Military police investigations, traffic, and some posts have game wardens.
Not going to MOS bash, but unless you're an MP, not too many other MOS' like you. Even then, there's two different kinds of MPs, there are your Garrison MPs and your Field MPs. Your Garrison MPs are the ones that are always pulling you over and giving you tickets and comin to your house when you're beating your wife, kid, dog, neighbor, whatever. Field MPs don't like Garrison MPs, so if you become a Garrison MP, chances are pretty good that not too many people are going to like you. But hey, it's a job and not everyone is gonna like you, so you do what you like!

And if you're on a SRT, NOBODY likes you because you get the best of both worlds. THAT'S where I like to be.
Thanks DW, I thought I was Infantry. Damn...so close...
I love Ft. Campbell MP's Ive been pulled over about 7 times before I deplyed in 2004-05 mostly for speeding and one time for not having my license while speeding... and Ive only gotten 3 tickets the rest are all warnings. I wonder what they teach you guys at MP school about when to stop someone for speedingn.
Heres to Ft. Campbell MP's you guys are the greatest.
I would like to start off by saying that none of what follows is meant in a rude or sarcastic way. I am just not good with words. For clarification purposes, mp's can wear a badge with class a and b uniforms while conducting military police duties. The same applies for wearing combat boots. The only catch with the badge thing is that if you do not have a specific mp job that requires one (MPI, CID) you are not issued a badge, you have to order one. As for the two different kinds of Mp's I agree with that. I am more of a fiedl mp because it is the closest that I can get to infantry as a female. I also work the road. Here in alaska we do it all as well as deploy. Not all mps are the ones that write tickets and put you in jail. Speaking for myself and many others that I work with how you treat us is how we will treat you, in soo many words. If your honest and cooperative then we will do our best to work with you but if you are brligerant and disrespectful why should we go out of our way to help you. I knew when i became an mp that i wasnt going to be very well liked but as it was said earlier: its a job.... and someone has to do it. And just to throw it out there, if anyone thinks that we have it easier because we are mp's they have got it backwards. We are held to higher standards because we are the ones that are supposed to be enforcing them. For example, a person in our unit got caught doing 4 mph over on post and had to stand outside the shoppette on their day of in class a's for 6 hours and tell people not to speed. We also dont get half the time off as almost everyone else. all the holidays, and 3 and 4 day weekends we have to work. Im not saying that anyone in here has disrespected mp's or offended me but id just like to ask before you think about arguing with an mp or passing judgment on them in the future, take a step back and think about how hard we work and what we have to put up with. We all know everyone hates us but the reason for that is the stupid immature ones that think that they are god because of the brassard. We have our share of bad apples just like everyone else but that doesnt mean that we are all like that. Take it as you will and I hope I was some help. To whom it applies, thank you for reading this and viewing it from a 3rd person perspective. Feel free to reply
