I did my interview in BCT... it was great because I spent the day in an AC room with tv and refreshments. The interview itself was great because I knew what they were doing or trying to do. They are ensuring that you didn't lie on any paperwork or have done anything bad that they will find out about. The interview is a required part to get your clearance and it helps focus the investigation.

If you have done something questionable it is usually okay as long as you are upfront about it and don't try to hide anything... that is when it gets apinful

Anything that happened before your 18th B-day is none of their business regardless of anything they say....when they ask those questions tell'em to stick it their ear...you were a minor and they have no need to know! 8)

Are we to interpret this as carte blanche to lie about everything that happened before our 18th b-days? Big Grin Oh, I don't know, like, lie all over the application?

I could just see it now...

Things you did as a minor have no "standing". It matters not. If you want to give up information on something you may have done when you were 15 then go right ahead. It just always leads to more questions and why would you want to do that?

They asked me over and over again about my hobbies, hang-outs, friends I had, other crap that took me back before my 18th and I said "nope, not up for discussion". (I was going for a TS at the age of 19...they wanted more info since I joined at 17 and they had nothing on me) I've never done anything illegal but I don't feel like giving up any more than I have to...they're the investigators...let'em go investigate.

Hello...just joining the thread. The clearance system is completely broken as everyone knows. The surprise is: it's not your investigation that takes a long time....9 times out of 10 the investigation is complete and it is sitting on someone's desk, pending 'adjudication." All that means is someone is waiting to approve it. They have had a bottleneck there for the last 3 years, and it doesn't look like it's slowing down. And to respond to someone else's post...TS clearances are not good for 10 years. Secret clearances are good for 10, TS for 5. If you get out of the military and want to get a job in the civilian sector, you need to make sure you do it in the first two years. If you don't use your clearance again within 48 months after last using it, it will disappear. It will be like you never had a clearance at all. If you have a clearance, try to get a PR before you leave the military...and make sure your two years doesn't pass.
