The whole thing about not having to tell them about anything from before your 18th b-day can't be true, i say this only because I knew people that went to Huachuca the same time i did were 17. The age you are thinking of is 16, because you forget that their are people in the military that are 17 with their parents permission. The few that join and need clearences are few and far between, but they are there.

Once you join the military successfully with your parents permission you are a adult. Before that if you were under 18 you were the problem of your parents. I joined when I was 17 and that's as far back as I ever had to openly talk about. And I won that arguement several times with investigators...at least I think I did as I still have my clearance. :?

That is incorrect, as someone else stated. TS clearances are only 5 years. The best thing to do is start it at least 18 months out on getting re-certified.
When I did my TS 2 yrs ago, I had to go all the way back to the age of 16. Also, claiming stuff is locked in your "minor records" is false, the government can still access this type of information, whether you like it or not. If you are applying for an intelligence job, they are going to look at everything. Would you want a person that was a criminal before 18 working on TS stuff? I know I wouldn't.

Just some info for you I am in the Army and I do the interviews for those who need or are updating their security clearances. If you are located in California then an CIV agent is in charge of your investigation. Last I heard they were backlogged at least 18-24 months.
