A question just sprung up and my mind. I am a specialist with 25 months TIS i got my spc-4 on my 18 month TIS with waiver. now that i am about to reclass and im not promotable is this a good move? because i belived that i would have been sent to the board with my waiver for sergeant because my Squad leader tells me that, but since i'm leaving will it make it harder for me to get promoted once i get to my new unit? the reason i'm concern about it is because i made a bet with a Drill Sergeant that inspired me to work hard to earn my respect back in AIT, that i would be an E-6 once i have reached my 6 year mark in my military career. And since then i have been working my fingers to the bone trying to make sure i reach my goal that has been set for me. So im just curious would reclassing have an effect? I do all the right things im maxed out on Corrspondent Courses, I have about 43 total semester civilian education hours. what else should i focus on? I want to make sure that i have everything right in perspective, plus i do plan on going to Drill Sergeant school myself. how can i get preped for that?

What's your MOS now and what do you plan on reclassing into?

First, talk to your retention NCO and he will tell you what options you have for reclassing and then you can decide if the (P) is good ro bad. If it's good...Go to the board the first chance you get!

If you haven't already, focus on maxing the PT test and getting the highest possible in marksmanship. Maxing out on awards is kind of hard to try for. Me? I went to some SOM and SOQ boards, got an AAM for all the ones I won. That was an easy 45 promotion points. Plus you learn all the material for the actual board. (In my case, they knew I was SOQ, so they gave me a 150 and let me go). So being proactive in those aspects are beneficial, whether you think it is or not at the moment. Be sure you have your"I Love Me Book"
in order!

Read everything you can from this website and use ASG as a resource as well. There is so much information about being a DS on the internet.

Good Luck
