I just reclassed from 11B to 31B. I went to AIT to "learn" how to drive a HMMWV, fill out forms that you know gonna change when you get to your new unit cuz of their SOP, how to shoot 9mm, decon a vehicle, blah blah blah. (I've been in for 4 years now) Anyway, I didnt really learn anything new at AIT. Any advise that will actually help me when I arrive at my unit? The attitude of "shot now ask question later" wont fly with the MP CORPS. Will it?

Thanks

Well, considering a lot of our info comes out of the Infantry FMs, you can now consider yourself Infantry with a badge rather than just Infantry.

Our mounted movement techniques almost mirror dismounted movemenet techniques that you would be used to. We do do dismounted work and regardless of what some think (especially those signing up to be an MP or those that have not been at too many duty stations) we spend a lot of time in the field and they big army loves to deploy us.

You just get outta AIT? I just got a bunch of Soldiers right out of Basic and you may have been in school with them.

I was a "Mech" and a "Leg". I dont really care about the field. I'm really comfortable out in the woods. What about Garrison. Any advise there? Oh yeah... Got done with AIT last Dec 03 along with 5 other "inserts".

What type of advice are you looking for? I worked garrison for 3 years so I MIGHT be able to help you a little.

I didn't learn anything in ait. I've been in for 3 1/2 years I learned everything I needed to learn (as far as law enforcement goes). i OJT'd for 7 days and then worked the gate for 7 then they through me to the wolves. Some good advise is call for backup for everycall until you feel comfortable, also watch COPS and read up because the new joes coming in aren't going to know that you are new to the corps. On the upside your 11b training will pay off in the field, and when in doubt just ask your squad leader.

Deconing a hummer is the same as deconing a track, just less parts to wash. And if you didn't learn anythign "new" at AIT, you weren't learning hard enough. Its what I tell reclasses that come into my MOS who say they don't remember being taught any of the stuff we do in the office. Its exactly what you were trained to do, just looks real.
