Hi, I'm wandering if anyone knows of a link to a current policy dealing with the foreign language as an additional skill, for a soldier with an unrelated primary MOS? How about the foreign language profficiency pay? I found an AR publication, but it is somewhat dated. I have not found anything on the DLI web, yet. Thank you.
the important ones are arabic, farsi, darsi, chinese, french (i guess). korean use to be but i don't think it is as much these days. what is it you would like to know in particular?

The army is always looking for linguists in any MOS. The catch is that only certian MOS's can get FLPP pay for certian languages. HAKSAENG is correct about the important languages, but any MOS can get paid for low density languages such as Dari or Punjabi. Find out who your unit CLPM (command language program manager) is. Depending on your MOS it could be at the BDE level or higher. That individual can tell you the breakdown for who can get paid for what.
MILPER message 06-233 is the latest info on FLPP (foreign language proficency pay) that I know of.
First off, the only current MOS that requires a language is 98G. 97E used to be but now is temporarily suspended for all ranks (but if you got a language at the expense of the Army, you need to maintain proficiency).
You can get some payments for certain languages based on the language of course, and what your MOS is.
