For us 98X option people, where do we get MOS training at? On my reservation sheet all it lists is Basic and Defense Language so do we get it in Monterey or do we get some more orders later for it?

Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, TX. I go there in 2 weeks.
FYI... GRADUATE from your language. If you don't and you get reclassed to 98C (your primary MOS will most likely be 98G... the X just means either of those two) you'll get bumped right back down to phase 4 and you'll deal with Drill SGTs again. It'll be a whole world of suck.
A guy I know that was 98X; he was chosen to learn korean. His training for that was at the Monterey Defense Language Institute, (DLI). He failed out and then he was transfered to Goodfellow AFB and forced to reclass to 98C. But he did not lose his bonus for 98X, because he was forced to reclass, I dont remember what milper message that falls under, but I will try to find it. Also, while I was at Ft. Huachuca, the Army was sending linguists there for the system and OTJ training. I hope this sheds some more light on the subject.

The Presidio of SF was shut down a while ago... DLI is at the Presidio of Monterey CA

Okay... The people who are saying linguists go from BCT to DLI at Monterey, CA to Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, TX; and maybe to Ft. Huachuca, AZ are correct. Ft. Huachuca is for special training on equipment used in some locations, it is not for all linguists.

How do you guys manage to keep 98C and 98X and 98G and the like straight? It is amazing. I would be overwhelmed by all those different codes and their respective meanings.
[quote:6098a63797="Epic Honor"]OK. How long do we spend at Goodfellow?[/quote:6098a63797]
The time you spend at Goodfellow is dependent on your language. French Gs spend 6 weeks, Korean Gs spend about 5 months... Spanish is 4... etc... If you're a 98C, it's 5 months across the board, regardless of whether or not you have a language.

after a while you just get used to them. I still dont' know a vast majority of MOS codes... just the more common ones. 11B is Infantry, 11C is mortarman. 19D is Cavalry Scout. 88M is truck driver, 91W is Medic, 92Y is supply, 95B is MP, 96B is intel analyst,... i could go on, these are all MOSs that i've gotten to know just cuz either: a-i went to basic w/ alot of people with that MOS (eg.91W and 88M) b-they talk about that MOS alot (eg. 11B, 95B) c-it was given to us as an option to be reclassed into when we failed our language (this is specific to DLI. Eg. 11C, 19D, 92Y) or d- it's in our branch (96, 97, and 98 series.)

Why does everyone always forget the 33w's?[/quote:c00c718148]
I know a lot of MOS codes, but when I think of MI, sometimes, I too forget that 33W is an MI MOS. I tend to think you all are Signal. I hear 33W is a great MOS when you get to do your job. Are contractors taking over that field too?
