I am reclassing to 96B my re-enlistment has already been done and my interim has been sent up through the proper channels. I have recently had a change to my EPSQ for the clearence to be started, there was an incident that happend and I was wondering if anyone knew if it came up on my screening if they would interview me on the event or throw it out. it happened after the paperwork went up. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on this. Do I need to re-submit paperwork to update the incident, or any other info would be good. Thanks

The "incident" is not going to be brought up unless you or someone else brings it to their attention. It also depends on the scale of the "incident". If its a speeding ticket or something dumb like that I would keep my mouth shut, because it is not going to come up. However, if its a DUI, arrest, sex with a goat or recent terrorist ties...its going to come out one way or another, unless its the goat thing...that you may get away with.

Well the incident as of right now is staying company, and yes it was dumb. I was wondering if there is anything that will come up that way, but keep the advice coming I need it right now.

The key thing is the references that you gave. As long as the issue is company level (article 15 or whatever) and you were not legaly charged or gave someone in your company as a referance...you are good to go.

Well references are good, and as of right now the incident is still Company grade, but I am still awaiting final decision by the CO. I am now only awaiting that final decision to find out, but I appreciate the reply. It takes a little of the weight off of the issue.

If the "incident" is a Summarized Article 15, there won't be any real impact beyond your unit. However, if its a Company Grade Art 15, your Commander is required to submit a DA 5248 Report of Unfavorable Information for Security Determination. Now, he can recommend on the Derog that you retain your clearance - but the form has to be submitted. Same thing for a DUI or any other incident involving being picked up by the local cops.

What's up with some of these clearences? There's a soldier her that finished his AIT and came to my unit, but his interm has expired. Heck, he had to get ANOTHER interm! Shouldn't these soldiers have their clearences BEFORE they report?

You would hope so, but with the backlog of clearances needing to be checked, it's taking a long time to get one. I enlisted in May 2000 and got my TS in November 2001, so I can only imagine it's even longer now.

Yeah that's what I'm getting at, how can we let personnel have access to classified information when their investigation checks hasn't been completed?

Quite simply, pragmatism. The work that needs to be done doesn't go away just because there are a lack of cleared personnel. Because of that, O-6s (I think) and above can allow a person with nothing intially derogatory on the SQ86 to have access to classified info.
It's basically an attitude of, "It needs to get done so we'll take the risks." Without it, there would be probably a quarter of the MI personnel in the active component, simply because of the length of AIT and the need to have the interim before hitting the schoolhouse. If the actual claerance was required, analysts and linguists would not be MOSQ until they had about three years TIS.
